Now in the 2000's, we have smart pencils that connect through Bluetooth and we can do things directly on our tablets! We remember them being put in my 8th grade math class as a "tester" and seeing if we'd like them. There's becoming more and more research about how iPads benefit Gen Ed students, ELL, and Special Needs students. Not to mention, us students in MCC for this class were given iPads.
