Stop taking work home and slow down with assigning projects

-My students have just finished up a unit on Motion & Force. Within this unit they explore concepts about Newton’s Law of motion, gravity, Projectile Motion, Air Resistance, Friction, Force, and how things move. We then connect these concepts to real world examples, such as sports, driving cars, swimming, air planes, etc. 

-Students learn content knowledge about Parenting and Child Development and Foods and Nutrition 1. In both classes students make connections between what they are learning and their personal life experiences. I’ve tried to plan more learning experiences that involve hands-on learning experiences, like research project presentations and food labs. 

DNA in biology/aliens; how DNA makes traits and connect that to traits they see in themselves 

In my classes I am currently teaching about tools of the trade. Interior design is learning about architectural basics.  Students can apply this knowledge to the type of tools used to build and decorate a house.Apparel is learning about body measurements, sizing and patterns. Students learned how important it is to measure accurately to construct garments. Right now they are making drawstring bags.

-Writing and speaking skills can be applied in most jobs. 

-Air Resistance & Velocity was a great way to bring sports into the classroom. My students applied their knowledge about how to throw a football or baseball with how air resistance and velocity can have an impact on the baseball or football.

Since all of my students live in a house and wear garments, it was kind of easy to make relationships between life applications and the topics as a whole.

-Students were able to draw a visual representation for how a curveball in baseball could be influenced by air resistance if the incorrect amount of velocity is applied to the baseball by the pitcher. 

-Students were able to showcase what they have learned about birth defects through designing a Google Slides project presentation. 

 

My students did project called Lesson Plans - A Student Teaching Experience. It was good for students to see how much work goes into planning a lesson and executing it.  They had to have an objective, a lesson and an assessment to show what their lesson taught their follow students. Interesting concept for students to see how a teacher prepares for a lesson.

Journals

Quick review of material from day before

Go sit with students during independent work or group work 

-Daily Journals, asking students how they are, how their weekends were, or just doing some personal check-in with students based upon mood. 

-Daily Warm-up questions are answered in journals. Some are counted for a grade, and others are not.This allows students to share what they have learned and write down their thoughts and feelings. This is especially good for students who are quiet. 

I open the floor with review and a conversation about what is going on in world today. I ask my students how do they think it affects them and what do they can do to help or change things.

-Monitor bad behavior or students being rude to each other

-Share mints

-Rewards of candy for having confidence to work out problems on the board, showing them I care by checking in with them regularly, and allowing them to know I am here for them. 

-I praise students for their hard work, kindness, and assistance in the classroom. I do this through candy, and verbal and written rewards. I correct students when they display bad behavior and/or rudeness to each other. 

At the end of every month we celebrate birthdays. I have cards and buy cupcakes to celebrate not just birthdays but their lives. We talk about special plans they may have. Show my students that I care about them and I want to celebrate them.

-Go over any upcoming due dates

-Review due dates, allow students time to decompress in class after finishing their work, and check to see if students have any questions or concerns I need to address. 

-I take a moment to review what was discussed in class that day, remind students of what is ahead, and give them some time to wind down and catch up on missing work. 

I take a moment to review that days lesson, make announces of assignments that are due and talk about tomorrow's plan.  I ask questions. Any comments or concerns to be addressed.
