When the protests started, I thought about how she had faced discrimination back in Poland, for being Jewish. She would say, "Always keep open lines of communication with people." Her words taught me that talking about our differences and is healing and the best way forward.

They definitely had so much more in Ecuador than they did in America and were willing to put all of that aside for our sake. My sisters and I are living the American Dream because my parents gave us the opportunity to do so. They are the hardest working and most loyal people I have ever met. I know I am a good citizen because they have taught me a lot of great morals and values throughout my life! My kids also inspire me to be a better person in everything I do and say. I want them to grow up and know that they are loved, supported, and taught how to be good citizens. One day l want them to look back and feel like they had a good role model in their lives!
