Newt is Thomas's best friend and supports him in almost every dissension. Newt is always there for Thomas and tries to keep him from doing anything to create another problem. 

Teresa is the only girl who made it into the maze in the first book, she has become very close friends with Thomas and Newt. She made some risky dissension which Thomas didn't like
