The bark is orange-red, thick and deeply fissured at the base of the trunk, somewhat thinner in the upper crown.

The leaves ('needles') are in pairs, very stout (2 mm broad), up to 25 cm long,^[7] and bluish-green to distinctly yellowish-green. The maritime pine features the longest and most robust needles of all European pine species.^[7]

The cones are conic, 10–20 cm long^[7] and 4–6 cm broad at the base when closed, green at first, ripening glossy red-brown when 24 months old. They open slowly over the next few years, or after being heated by a forest fire, to release the seeds, opening to 8–12 cm broad.

The seeds are 8–10 mm long, with a 20–25 mm wing, and are wind-dispersed.

Maritime pine is closely related to Turkish pine, Canary Island pine and Aleppo pine, which all share many features with it. It is a relatively non-variable species, with constant morphology over the entire range.

In cosmetics it is used as astringent, firming, anti-seborrheic, anti-dandruff, anti-aging and as fragrance.^[3] It is also the traditional wood used for Italian harpsichords.

Olive trees like soil with lots of chalk in it. They grow best on limestone slopes and crags in coastal climate.
The Wild Olive is a small tree or shrub that grows up to 8–15 m tall with thornybranches. The leaves are opposite, 4–10 cm long and 1–3 cm wide. The leaves have a dark greyish-green color above and are pale with whitish scales below. The small white flowers, with calyx and corolla divided into four parts, two stamens and bifid stigma, are mostly on the last year's wood, in racemes coming up from the axils of the leaves. The fruit is a small drupe 1–2 cm long, thinner-fleshed and smaller in wild plants than in orchard cultivars.

The tree, from the species Quercus pubescens, has stupefying dimensions: 24 metres tall, with a circumference of 4.5 metres, while the foliage has a diameter of 40 metres and an unusual shape, with branches reaching out almost horizontally.
