Today you need to try and write your instructions in full sentences using the 2 types of words you learnt yesterday. I have included a writing frame to help you understand how to set out your work.

You don't have to write on the sheet - in fact I think you are all capable of writing it out on lined paper but set out in this way!

Additional challenge: Can you make your own numicon subtraction questions for someone else to complete? Explain what you need to do to work out the answers.

We need to use 2 types of words in instructions and they have very special names.
One is ordinal words - these tell us the order things happen in and are words like first, next. How many more can you think of?

The second words are called imperative verbs - we sometimes call them bossy verbs. They are words that tell us to do something in a bossy way such as put, cut, grate. Can you think of any more of these words?

The next thing we normally do is to write an introduction which will tell us what the instructions are used for. We might say something like Use these instructions to cure a king or a horrible illness. 

Your job today is to have a go at writing a How to title and an introduction sentence.

Draw a chalk number track or number line, from 1-20, on the ground and have a go at subtracting different numbers. Ask someone in your house to  tell you which numbers to subtract. Make sure you draw the 'jumps', on the number lines, just like you did yesterday on the sheet.

If you prefer, you can do the same activity on paper using felt pens or pencils.

You could also play this game. Draw a 1-20 number track or line, as above, and roll a dice. Take that number away from 20.
