I am a Friday practicum person, so my first lesson will be done this week. We have planned to examine what a community is, like the Birchwood school, with our second grade MLLs. :)

Lesson#1(Memo) Identifying Characteristics of animal that life in the Savanna

We read a book about the characteristics of the different animals that life in the Savanna. The students were engage because they were wearing a safari hat and also had a magnifying glass so that they could have a closer look at the different animals and their characteristics. Something that could have gone better is to have a better space to do my lesson. I did my lesson in the hallway and I believe students were easily distracted. Next time I will repositioning the students in a way that they are facing me instead of the hallway. Overall, it was great to have the opportunity to be in a small group with students again.

I have my practicum on Fridays, so I won't be able to teach a lesson until this Friday. Anna and I are going to work together to plan a lesson that centers around what it means to be a friend with our 1st grade MLs.

The lesson focused on economics, exploring the concepts of wants and needs, followed by sorting pictures into a wants/needs chart. The student appeared engaged during the picture sort. However, since this was my attempt at creating a lesson plan, I experienced a moment of forgetfulness where I struggled to recall everything, I intended to do and say. For future lessons, I plan to print out my lesson plan and possibly a script of important pieces I want to remember, to ensure a smoother delivery and better retention of key points.

My lesson was about the outcomes of choices and what would if we made certain decisions. Something that went well was that there were a few English vocabulary words that my student naturally brought into our conversation (this helped me see their prior knowledge a little better). I think that I could have found a more engaging activity or atleast presented the activity a little differently than I did. Next time I plan on doing something that involves the student drawing (or really anything hands-on) so they will be more engaged.

Hello all! I have not taught a lesson yet. The lesson I am planning to teach next Tuesday is focused on outer space. The students I am working with are learning about “earths place in the solar system,” so I am planning to conduct an observation chart with them relating to that. I have a list of vocabulary from my cooperative teacher I am planning to base my lesson around, like “star” and “orbit.”

Hey ya'll. I also have not taught a lesson yet. I am on Friday practicum, but me and Elena plan to center our lesson around the topic that our first graders are learning of what it means to be a friend and a learner as well as knowing the cause and effects of choices and actions. Our first lesson plan was to build background knowledge using a KWL inquiry chart and centering that around the words that our first graders have been learning (friend, learner, caring). What do you know? What do you want to know? If we have a chance to ask our teacher about what other words they are going to learn towards the end of the quarter we would include those words as well!

Hey y’all, so I am in the Friday practicum as well, so haven’t gotten the chance to teach any lessons yet. But Rosalinda and I have been working on lessons that involve the IB unit our students are working on at Birchwood, which has to do with defining what a community is. We are thinking about having them focus on the community of Birchwood Elementary for the overall unit theme.

My 1st lesson went really well! I did it with a kindergarten student who began learning English in September and, in line with the IB units, was about emotions. I introduced a couple of emotions with emotion cards (happy/feliz, angry/enojado, sad/triste) with corresponding facial expressions. The cards seemed helpful for him to have a visual cue. During the lesson, we practices spelling and writing the words in both English and in Spanish on paper and on the white board, and also matching the emotions to the corresponding emojis/facial expressions. Next time I will make sure my brightness is turned down on my laptop while its recording so that he doesn't stare at himself on my computer screen :)

One lesson I have taught is students learning how to use the word "because" in a sentence. What went very well was students seemed to be understanding pretty quickly and were participating during my lesson. I think next time I would possibly slow down a bit more when teaching. It felt like I spoke way too fast I thought my lesson would've took a bit longer.

One lesson I taught was working on identifying emotions using an observation chart. The students were very engaged and so it was really easy to create conversation with them about what circumstances can generate specific emotion. I could have done a better job with student management and paying closer attention to specific comments made by students that could have been furthered by elaboration, creating more room for learning. I did a good job prepping for this lesson, but in the future I will follow my lesson plan more closely.
