The story is about a traveler that had a monkeys paw that was said to have a spell on it to grant you any three wishes. The monkey’s paw has always saved lives and made wishes, but . inconsistently. The Whites had the opportunity to make 3 wishes to the paw and they denied it. Then, her son died and they wanted a wish. But when she wished, he came back as a rat. The soldier said that there would be consequences if they wished for things and they would not be his fault.

Thematic Analysis- JJ

The main theme in the passage is: Be prepared for every situation. That is true because Mrs. White earlier had the opportunity to make three wishes on the monkey's paw and she didn't want to. Following that event, a kid died that she knew well. Then, she begged Sergeant Major for the monkey's paw wish and she got it, but not how she wanted it. After she wished, the kid turned into a mouse. Probably if she wished earlier the boy would turn back into a boy. To back that up with evidence from the passage: "Mr. White took the paw from his pocket and eyed it dubiously. "I don't know what to wish for, and that's a fact," he said slowly. "It seems to me I've got all I want." "(Jacobs, 4). That quote from the passage shows how Mr. White denied the wishes and the cause of the conflict with the son.

The issue in this story is very similar to gambling. Every day people spend all of their money on lottery tickets. They all want to get rich, but they do not want to work for it. This can ruin their lives. Just like what happened in the story.

This is just like people with gambling. They wish to become rich and they lose a lot of money and barely get anything. People still have this problem today. Instead of losing money, Mr. White lost his son.

In the cartoon, it is showing a guy only wanting money. In the story, the family was being greedy and only wanting money by requesting 200 pounds, in return their son died. But then they wished for there son back and were greedy once again, when they should have done that in the first place.

I can connect this story to The Velt because in both stories the characters relied on the inconsistent. In this story, the Whites relied on the Monkey's Paw for a life, when they knew it is inconsistent and they could have had the boy not die in the first place. In The Velt, the kids relied way too much on technology. If that technology was taken away, they have zero life skills so they would have a very hard time surviving because that technology did everything for them, they couldn't even brush their teeth.

Q: How does the theme relate to modern day?
A: The theme relates to modern day because like I said in the connection to media people in this day in age don't have many life skills because technology does everything for people. So if the technology was wiped out, people wouldn't have the basic life skills necessary for survival.

Q: What adjectives best describes Mr. White’s character?
A: Some adjectives that describe Mr. Whites character is greedy and selfish. He earns the greedy title because all he wanted was money that he didn't need rather than things he could have made sense in wishing for. He earns the title selfish because when he took the money over the boy he thought of himself before others. Even if he didn't wish for the boys life, he could have wished for others before himself to be a compassionate person.

How Much Would The 200 Pounds Be Worth In The U.S. Today?- AK

This takes place in 1902. In 2018 that would be 23875.48 pounds. If you put that to dollars it is $31357.34. 200 pound in 1902 is worth 31357.34 dollars in 2018. So if you are wishing for about $30,000 over a life that is wrong. Even if Mr. White desperately needed that money, you can't put a price on a life.
