Phonological is all auditory and an awareness of it is the ability hear and manipulate the spoken part of words and sentences. This includes awareness of words, their syllabication, onset - Rime, and Rhyme. Phonological Awareness is like this umbrella with the other components to reading instruction under it.

Classroom Activities:

Block (Syllables)- Using the blocks that attach, read each vocabulary word and attach one link to represent each syllable

Traveling to School (Rhyme)- I begin by saying, "On my way to school, I saw a park," then toss a bean bag to another student. This student has to repeat my sentence but replace park with a word which rhymes with park.

At Home Activity:

(Syllable) - Using pictures and things found in the home, have the student clap the numbers of syllables for various things, such as window, 2 syllables.

Parent Information:
https://thereadingadvicehub.com/phonological-awareness-a-helpful-guide-for-parents-and-teachers/

Phonemic Awareness is also auditory they move from listening to working with the sounds. We call this manipulating a phoneme. We take a sound and changing it somehow.
Classroom Activity:

Phoneme Isolation: The students are given a sound and they have to use that sound at the beginning of another word.

Making Friends with Phonemes:

https://www.readingrockets.org/article/making-friends-phonemes
At Home Activity:

Parents can play Simon says using letters.

When looking at fluency it is also good to understand high frequency words and site words. Our automaticity or ability to automatically recognize a word helps students read more fluently.
Classroom Activity:

Teachers can use read aloud stories so children can hear proper voice inflection, speed/pace, or expression.

Have students practice fluency from posters in the classroom. The have students read and re-read in a silly or different accent or voice.

At Home Activity:

Have the student read to an adult using a word pointer or paper to keep track of where they are; it builds confidence in reading.

Parent Resource:

https://thisreadingmama.com/reading-fluency-phrasing/

Comprehension is fully understood when children are able to read fluently rather than having to decode and think about every word.
Classroom Activity:

Asking and answering questions then leading to generating and answering their own questions.

During whole group reading we read a page then make a prediction as to what is going to happen in the next page.

At Home Activity:

Summarizing what has been read is a great way to increase comprehension.
