Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca

Alvar explored for Spain. He spent eight years in the Gulf region of present day Texas. He was treasure to the Spanish expedition. He reached what is now Tampa Bay, Florida, in 1528. His party of 60 perished but reached the shores of present day Galveston, Texas. After four years of living among some natives, they set out for Mexico. They traveled through Texas to New Mexico and Arizona, before finally arriving in Mexico in 1526. He became a judge in Seville, Spain.

Jacques Cartier

Jacques was a French explorer and is know for exploring the St. Lawerence River and giving Canada its name. Jacques was sent by King Francis to look for riches in the New World and in search for a faster route Asia in 1534. His exploration to St. Lawerence River allowed France to lay claim to lands that would become Canada.
