As practice for the future, we learned to make business letters for different companies of our choosing and hopefully get a response back. This was practice for later in our lives, such as collage regimes or job applications, in which we need a formal letter writing format.

Once the class read the entire Christmas Carol novel, by Charles Dickens, we wrote different paragraphs answering different questions assigned to different parts in the book. After this, we made a character analysis essay on the transformation of Scrooge.

The class read multiple articles on the fighting in Southern Sudan and eventually wrote a response paragraph to the questions: "what do you understand about why and how they were fighting? What was different about their fighting in the last 20 years from the 100 and more years before that?" After we were finished, two people would give feedback on your writing.

A Socratic Seminar is an educated discussion and debate on a topic or question. The two Socratic Seminars our class had were on these questions: What message did Charles Dickens try to convey in "A Christmas Carol"? and What was segregation and discrimination like in 1963? In the Socratic Seminar, I feel when the class has different views and disputes them, we can come up with a well thought out answer to a problem.
