Supporting School Engagement and High School Completion Through Trauma-Informed School Counseling

I found Rumsey and Milsoms article to be informative and a confirmation of some flaws I've noticed in the education system. When we begin to look deeper into the issue of drop out rates and the link with trauma it becomes apparent that there is a powerful correlation. A lack of support and counseling for trauma leads to a higher probability of a student dropping out of high school. When counselors are aware of the trauma they are able to help a student through it and increase the graduation rates for all students. The repeated acts of trauma are more damaging than single acts of trauma and the repeated abuse has lasting effects that change the way a student engages in the lessons and their opinions of school. While this seems simple, the in-depth descriptions they provided really helped to break down and highlight how necessary school counselors are in the school system.

I participated in a study and the above are my results. Before participating in the study they asked questions and I found it interesting that my predictions were mostly accurate. I believe the results may be skewed due to my tiredness at the time of taking the test. I have taken these tests before for another class and find that the results are always interesting but I can see how outside factors can skew the results.

My results were a little surprising in the area of associating male with a career. I feel the results were more skewed because of the way the questions were presented. Part of the test comes down to speed when answering questions and having to process choices being flipped to a different hand. I think I will work hard to remember not to stereotype based on gender as far as careers and families. I am more aware of the biases and thought I would well as my parents don't have traditional gender roles but I will reflect on those unintentional biases.
