You may think that what I’ll say next is  I’m proud of you for making a choice by embarking on this sabbatical to pour your love into yourself and help you, but I actually will not! Since I know you well enough to know that helping others — by leading with your love — is who you are... why fight that reality or feel bad about it? (I also know you were very intentional during the last couple years to take care of you!) Instead, what I am most excited about for you is that this chapter will help you to reconnect with that goal, since it is there anyway and always animating your heart; to sharpen it more than you’ve ever done before; and to bring it TO LIFE with new energy and inputs! It's like summer camp for your purpose There is no pressure really to do much more than to get out of your day-to-day routine and pour yourself into whatever piques your curiosity. The rest will take care of itself: it will be two weeks that help set up the next twenty. By taking a step BACK from your normal reality, you’ll be taking a step INTO your adjacent possible. I couldn’t be more inspired or proud of you for doing it… and I know that all of us won’t be able to help but be moved by the renewed energy we get to experience when you’re back and the many ideas and decisions you'll be ready to make. I'm so lucky to have a boss like you. I am so grateful that we have worked together for the past 11 years!!! Can you believe it? I am so grateful that you believed in me then and continue to believe in me now. I am so grateful for the hardships we have endured together and how it has strengthened our professional and personal relationship; and how it has improved the way we choose to take care of ourselves. We have grown together and I'm so grateful for that. I'm grateful for your sincere care for my health after these concussions and the flexibility that you have allowed me to take in order to care of my health and improve it. Without that support I would be in a much worse place than I am now. I am grateful for your light hearted and whimsical spirit and finding the humor in every day things. I appreciate your sincere care for this team and how you prioritize work/life balance. I appreciate your strength and endurance through significant challenges over the past few years and your creative solutions to them and never giving up. I'm grateful that you are taking a sabbatical because you deserve a big break and a big chunk of breathing space because you are the glue that has held this organization together and continues to hold this team together... and being the glue takes a lot of work and continuous pulling together of everything. I hope you get some much deserved rest during your sabbatical, find ways to show yourself all the love and appreciation, and with any little thought of work, stress, anxiety or "to do", that you  either a) write it down to handle after your sabbatical or b) watch the thought drift away like a cloud passing by in the sky because you don't have to think more about it because now is the time for rest and inspiration and the mind cannot be inspired when it is constantly "doing" more than "being." The mind is best when well rested; not only with sleep but with a lifestyle that prioritizes consistent rest. So I hope you embrace the BE on your sabbatical and embrace all forms of rest, relaxation and rejuvenation. Two weeks is a short time and every momen  counts, so don't waste it on doing stuff you can easily do 2 weeks later and doesn't matter right now because what matters right now is your self care and your rest.
