All of the cards our students made were mailed out last Friday!
Besides the Christmas cards, we also sent Lunar New Year cards. Each grade introduced a different aspect of the Lunar New Year — from the origins of the festival, the 12 zodiac animals, and lucky New Year foods, to auspicious greetings, lantern riddles for the Lantern Festival, and traditional holiday customs.

Moon Festival

Moon Festival originates from ancient Chinese harvest and moon worship traditions, dating back over 3,000 years to the Zhou Dynasty. It evolved into an official celebration during the Tang Dynasty and became a major holiday during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Celebrations center on family reunion, giving thanks for the harvest, and moon-gazing, which is connected to several legends, most notably the myth of the Moon Goddess Chang'e.

Talking about Thanksgiving, kids’ first impression in Chiayi, Taiwan, is TURKEY because Turkey Rice is the main delicacy.

Therefore, kids made a Turkey Hat and used their hand prints as leaves. On the leaves, they wrote down their thanksful notes.

The lighting of the tree at Rockefeller Center in New York City

The very first Rockefeller Center tree was put up by construction workers during the Great Depression in the USA. They pooled their money to buy a small tree and decorated it with homemade garlands.
This spontaneous act of hope and community became an official yearly tradition starting in 1933.
