I frequent Chipotle often and I was curious to see how accessible there website is for users who may have a disability. The first check I did was using Cynthia says. I wanted to check for Section 508 compliance. When doing so I saw that the report came back with 51 issues.  In all honesty I am not sure how to translate the results but I noticed the word column being used frequently. I am assuming this has to do with the website layout.  The next check I used was WAVE.  Surprisingly enough the WAVE check came back almost flawless with just 1 alert error.  The final physical test I did was seeing if it was possible for me to navigate the website without the use of a mouse. I was able to tab, use keyboard arrows and enter to select choices. As far as the layout the website is dependent on photos which I am sure because it is a restaurant so Ideally you want to sale your customers on the presentation of the food. There is a lot of white space but the spacing of the layout with pictures place and text to help separate gives it an balance. The information being displayed is chunked well. It is short and straight to the point. I selected this website because it is a common place where everyones visits to find updates on what is going on in the world. This website draws millions of users worldwide on a daily basis. With that being said I am curious to know how accessible is this website for users with disabilities. I used the same tools CynthiaSays and WAVE. The CynthiaSays scan result came back as has 58 issues. Similar to Chipotle the reviews were based on columns. I am assuming this is a layout issue. The next check was WAVE. The WAVE results read the site as having two errors and the one that stood out the most to me is the "very small text". I can see this being a problem with people who have vision issues. When thinking about this even further, whenever I help my mother or others with glasses or seeing issues, website viewing has always been difficulty. I have to figure out how to zoom in on the page to make the text more viewable. The last test I completed was navigating through the website with only using the tab key, arrows, spacebar, and enter. I was able to navigate through the website but again it took sometime because of all the advertisements that are placed on this site. It makes you tab through every single image until you can get to the text headlines. The visual look of the website seemed a bit overwhelming to me. There is a lot of information but it is spaced well. I chose this website because of the fact that it is a shipping website. Especially with everything that is going on now with some stores closing and online shopping at it's peak, everyone is using some sort of shipping website to mail gifts, and packages. When running the CynthiaSays check on FedEx the report came back with 53 issues. The report stated that some of the website images were missing titles and one column issue. The next check was WAVE. WAVE reported that the website had 4 errors and 6 alerts. On the positive side it had 58 features. Similar to the other sites one of the errors was small text. The layout of this website is very clean and organized. Not too much information, easy to read outside of the text size and I was able to navigate with only using the tab key, spacebar, enter, and keyboard arrows. There is so much more that goes into the creating of these websites. Outside of just the structural design, there is the heading, titling, wording of the text, font size, color scheme, and navigation that plays a huge role in website creating. At first I always wanted my site to be full of the latest, fancy technology like flash player, and video introductions with different screens that open up once you click the link but when going through this experience of taking away the mouse and having to navigate a website without one it can be very time consuming and frustrating, especially if you are not familiar with navigating without a mouse. Secondly, I think the font sizing is very important and I understand that with websites we have to try to fit the right amount of information on the pages without it being overwhelming but I think if we could incorporate a new standard font size that may make it easier for people to view would be great. Moving forward in my website design I will definitely take into consideration the wording that is being used, font size, amount of information the page, and the white space. The most important lesson I learned from this experience is to keep it simple. I can have a fun, and interactive website without all the glitz and glamour and make it so all students/viewers can access no matter what disability the have. I have to be aware of the amount of information I present and make sure this it is simple to navigate, locate items/assignments and turn in items/assignments.
