<title> The Stanley Cup is introduced. The Stanley was a trophy bought by Lord Stanley, who was the governor of central Canada, while on a trip to London, UK. It was purchased by him for the price of $48.67 US in that days dollar; today that is equal to $1,385 US. He then donated it to the hockey team who was the top amateur hockey team. Since then it has been claimed by the NHL and is now awarded to the team who wins the playoffs for 100 days each year. </title>

<title>The hockey net is introduced. The CAHL introduced goal nets into their league after William Fairbrother invented them in the 1890s. Before this invention, two post or shoes were used to mark the goal and an official was used to make sure that the post crossed the line. This was really the first point I can call modern hockey. Now it is an easy call by the players and referees depending on if the puck is resting in the net or not.</title>

<title>The rules for the number of players on the ice changes. Before 1912, each team was allowed 7 players to be on the ice for each team. The people who managed the official rules for hockey decided that 14 players on the ice at a time was too many. And soon after a meeting, rules were implemented that each team was allowed only 6 players on the ice including their goalie.</title>

<title>The NHL is created. The National Hockey League is created as a association of teams who compete at the highest level. It was originally only 5 teams: The Montreal Canadians, The Ottawa Senators, The Quebec Bulldogs, The Toronto Arenas, and the Montreal Wanderers. Although it was at the height of The Great War, the NHL was still formed as a cultural feat that still stands to this day.</title>

<title>Bobby Orr wins scoring title. Although not a big change in the sport itself, a defenseman winning the scoring title was a big change in how the sport is played. Bobby Orr scored a tremendous 120 points which, up to that point, was 88% more than any other blueliner. The fact that a defenseman could win a scoring title amazed the hockey world, and in turn, led for more and more offensive defense.</title>

<title>Darryl Sittler sets the NHL scoring record for a single game. Sittler, who was a player for the Toronto Maple Leafs, scored 6 goals and 4 assists in an amazing defeat against the Boston Bruins. Scoring anything above 7 points in a game was unheard of up to this point, let alone 10. This really wowed the hockey world and still stands as one of the greatest accomplishments by a single player in hockey history. This record still stands today. </title>

<title>Forward passing is allowed. Although today it is crazy to think of hockey as a defensive game, it was that way up until the late 1920s. The NHL was becoming boring. Goalies were posting up to 22 shutouts a season and players were scoring barely any goals. The NHL needed a change. So at the beginning of the 1929 season, the board had a meeting about what rules they would implement in order to make the game more offensive. The brainchild of this meeting was the rule allowing teams to pass forward. This rule changed the game and how it is played forever.</title>

<title>Richard scores 50 goals in 50 games. Maurice Richard was one of the most powerful hockey players in history. He gained his nickname &quot; The Rocket&quot; because of how breathtakingly strong his shot was. Anyone who played against him was terrified of getting in the way of his shot. Although it may come at no surprise, when he scored his 50th goal on the 50th game of the season against Toronto, the hockey world was struck with a slap of amazement. </title>

<title>Hockey Night in Canada debuts. The first time that hockey night in Canada was broadcasted, it was an instant success. It was on a night when the Montreal Canadians hosted the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Detroit Red Wings that Canada first saw its&#39; new, adored hockey show. Hockey Night in Canada originally was just the casters giving a live audience the play-by-play, but later turned into a talk show where the hosts would talk about the game in-between periods, and show their instant replays. A famous face from this show is Don Cherry, he was originally a coach in the NHL but made a huge mistake and got fired for it, but it turned out to be a good thing for him, as he was one of the most popular tv hosts ever. Hockey night in Canada is the longest lasting tv program of all time.</title>

<title>Jacques Plante wears a mask. Although today its crazy to think that goalies ever would block the net without wearing a mask, back then it was the opposite. It was considered crazy to wear any facial protection at all, let alone something that would cover your whole head. Jacques Plante had had one too many concussions, and 10 too many facial scares. During a game against the rangers, Plante was struck in the face by a blazing slapshot. He was brought off the ice in a red carpet of blood. 20 minutes later however, he returned, and to the surprise of the crowd, he was wearing a mask. From that day foreword, Plante pioneered his way to making it the norm to protect your face, and today it is required that a goalie cover his face.</title>

<title>The 1972 Summit Series. The 1972 Summit Series was a long fought battle on ice between team Canada, and the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War. This 8-game series wasn&#39;t just a battle about hockey, but a battle for freedom. Throughout the series, both teams were pretty equal, each winning the same amount of games. But when it came to the deciding game in Moscow, every school and business shut down to see this memorizing event. It ended with a shot heard around the world from Paul Henderson, a shot that won Canada possibly the most important sporting event in world history. </title>
