Normandy Invasion

June 6th, 1944 also known as D-day, which was a term to designate the launch date of a mission. The allied leaders were both Franklin Roosevelt and Winson Churchill. From D-day through August 21, the Allies landed more than two million men in northern France and suffered more than 226,386 casualties: 72,911 killed/missing and 153,475 wounded. German losses included over 240,000 casualties and 200,000 captured. The weapons used in the Normandy Invasion were tanks, pistols, rifles / carbines, submachine guns, transport vehicles, machine guns, grenades, planes, fighters, RPGs, artillery, transport planes, bombers, landing crafts, and gliders. This alone showed how big of an impact is caused by technology from the many deaths. The big strategy was to trick Hitler into believing that a joint attack of American, British and Russian forces would occur in Norway in the spring of 1944.

The Battle of Stalingrad

The battle of Stalingrad started on August 23, 1942, and ended on February 2, 1943. This started off by Germany invading the Soviet Union in 1941 and trying to take control over the city. The German's army strategy was to surround the whole city of Stalingrad and attack the soldiers inside until German forces controlled the whole city. However the German army had the element of surprise, but not enough resources, for example, gas and food so this made it harder to survive the Russian winter. In the battle of Stalingrad, some of the weapons used were the AK-47, T-34, Mig-15, RPG-7, and the Katyusha Rochet. Stalingrad resulted in 1,100,000 casualties and approximately 40,000 civilians dead. The Stalingrad battle was said to be the deadliest battles in WWII.

The Battle of the Bulge

The battle of Bulge begun December 16, 1944- January 25, 1945. Hitler had been proposed many strategies but yet denied them. One of his greatest downfalls was Hitler’s underestimation of the power of the air force. Germans essentially had the option of either going west and fight the Allied forces or they could attack to the east and fight the soviets. The Soviets just did not seem like a reasonable opponent due to the fact that the Soviets had so many soldiers. For this reason, it only seemed plausible that the Germans attacked to the west. Due to the advancements in technology the cost was enormous, with 19,000 killed in action and almost 50,000 wounded. The German casualties were even worse: 91,000 killed, wounded, and missing.
