         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Great Depression was a horrible time for America. </p><p>Many people lost their jobs due to the banks failure. Black Thursday is </p><p>when banks failed and people had no hope in the government anymore. The banks crashed on October 24, 1929. On October 29 the economy still continued to go down.  About to shatter, citizens where giving up.</p><p>Franklin Roosevelt made America  hope again. After World War II Foreigners </p><p>started to trade with America again and the economy stabilized. But the scars still remain in America</p><p>and we will never forget the Great Depression.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Government agencies also tried to help the situation by setting up camps run by the people living there. Facilities such as toilets, showers, and washing machines were available at these camps. Relief in the form of money  and food was made available to those who had been in California more than 3 years, but those who had been in California less than 3 years were left helpless.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>When workers were able to work, the competition was fierce and the conditions were poor. People were lined up at 6:30am waiting to be called for work. Some people waited all day and were not called at all. People were payed .25 an hour but they could only work for 4 hours out of the 12. The other time they had to sit in the hot sun or under the trees.</p>]]></description>
