During this time period a many people benefited from the upward trend of the economy but this can't be said for the people of color during this time period. For example, during this time period African American soldiers from WW2 did not reap the same benefits as the the white solider's. This is proven through the G.I Bill because although the bill was generalized for the public it was made clear that it was easier for the while soldiers to reap the benefits of this bill rather than the people of color. In some cases African Americans would receive money toward tuition but they couldn't do much with the money because most universities were segregated(History.com, 2019, para. 15-18).

Although many Americans, as well as, the economy were thriving there was dark side to this prosperity. During the 1950's poverty increased up to 25% throughout the whole country. In the 1950's poverty was considered to be american families of four having a annual income o $3,000 or less. Poverty tended to be hidden/invisible throughout the whites in depressed rural areas and blacks in urban neighborhoods. These conditions were hidden/invisible to middle class and wealth American because these people were enjoying their new assets they collected because of the rise consumerism(Shmoop.com, 2019, para. 24-27).

During the duration of this decade the economy overall grew 37% and the average American family had 30% more purchasing power. This was all a product of Eisenhower's efforts to balance the federal budget. Eisenhower tired to balance the federal budget through the G.I Bill and oil to fuel the engines of industry. What also helped was the the advancements in technology and science. Throughout all of these advancements and improvements the economy went through 2 recessions in the 1950's. During these recessions unemployment still remained low and got as high as 4.5% in 1955(Shmoop.com, 2019, para. 4-7)
