Something very important to me is mental health care, unfortunately in Tennessee many people are uninsured for their disabilities. 25 year old mother Tasha Burrage is one of many people who are not insured for their mental illness. Burrage suffers from bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder from childhood abuse. After a physical argument with her boyfriend, her two kids were taken away from her. After this incident, Burrage decided to try to find support. "I didn’t like being away from them," she says, "but it helped me do what I needed most. I went back to counseling ... ." If Burrage had not gone through this heartache she may never had gotten the help she needed, but the absence of healthcare in Tennessee for mental disabilities is slim to none. So others like her may never be able to get the real help they deserve.

3a. The subject of this article is healthcare for the mentally unstable in Tennessee.
b. The author wrote this article in order to show that Tennessee needs to up its game on mental facilities and healthcare for those suffering.
c. The intended audience is all of those who suffer with a mental disorder and those who can make a difference in advocating for more facilities and opportunities. (Healthcare Providers)
d. The authors purpose was to inform the audience about just how devastating a life without healthcare could be for those suffering from a mental disorder and just how challenging life can really be for them. She wants Tennessee to make more facilities and give more opportunities to those suffering in the state.
e. Jessica Bliss, the author of this article actually lives in Nashville, Tennessee. She uses her writing abilities to bring positive influences on those in the community and to make change around the state in any way that she can.
f. The tone of this article is compassionate. She uses the stories of people like Burrage in order to almost put a type of shock onto the readers. She is extremely passionate about this topic and hopes that some day health care in Tennessee will be available for those who suffer from crippling mental disorders.

My name is Julie Sprayberry, and I decided to sign up for AP Language and Composition because I wanted to be challenged and have a firmer grasp on life after high school. Who am I kidding? Just like most of the other kids in AP classes, I decided to take this class because it looks good on college applications. Hey, at least I'm honest. Seriously though, I am really looking forward to being in this AP class. I am hoping to gain better learning skills/techniques, and better ways to manage my time. As a student I am very focused, but can become easily distracted when in groups or in social scenarios. If you want to know interesting facts about me there aren't many. I am a sixteen year old girl who's life is consumed by school, work, band, and equestrian training. When I graduate from high school my plan is to attend college for eight or more years in order to become a veterinarian. After I have graduated college I would like to open my own veterinary clinic and move on from there.

Link: https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/17/us/florida-student-emma-gonzalez-speech/index.html
2. This article contains Emma Gonzalez', a survivor of the Stoneman Douglas High school shooting, own speech in front of thousands. Gonzalez brings up points like how our technology and knowledge of guns have changed and advanced since our right to bear arms was introduced, how guns can be administered with more than one at a time to one individual, and how we are the only major country out of the world with common mass shootings. Gonzalez uses her own tragic and traumatic experience in hopes to make a difference for our future, and to hopefully stop mass shootings in America once and for all.
3a. The subject of this article is the prevention of gun violence and how a young girl named Emma Gonzalez speaks out to America on her belief of changing the gun regulation laws for the better.
b. What prompted Gonzalez to speak out about her belief on gun restrictions and rights in the United States was the fact that she personally witnessed a mass shooting at her own high school in Florida. The Stoneman Douglas High School shooting resulted in 17 casualties. This event pushed many like Gonzalez to speak out about this sensitive topic in our nation.
c. Gonzalez' intended audience was the children and next generation of America. She encouraged her audience to go out and speak freely about the struggles of living in a world where gun violence is so common. She wanted to reach her audience by using her own personal experiences in hope that more people would stand up for what is right.
d. Gonzalez' purpose for this emotional address was to persuade the rest of America, especially the younger generation, to fight for the restriction of gun usage in America. She used her own traumatic experience to show the nation that this is a sad, yet common thing in our society today and that something needs to be done to prevent it from happening again. Gonzalez specifically wants America to speak out against gun violence and to put an end to the deaths caused by it.
e. Emma Gonzalez, a student at Stoneman Douglas High School, is the author and narrator of this moving speech. Some may argue that since she is so young she should not be qualified to talk about such a controversial topic, but in reality she has more knowledge and experience with this topic than most influencers do because she was face to face with the shooter of her very own high school.
f. Even though the subject of this speech is very disheartening, the tone is hopeful nonetheless. I chose this word to describe the tone of this message because even though Gonzalez was put through a lot of trauma and loss, she has a bright light inside of her. She is hopeful that someday, through all the advocating and protesting and fighting, that maybe things will change for the better.

Human trafficking is a terrible thing, but unfortunately it is happening all around the world. This article specifically addresses the trafficking of Yazidi women. Human trafficking can involve men or women, but most cases involve young women. In 2014, 3,200 cases of human trafficking involving women were reported in Sinjar. These poor, unfortunate ladies were trafficked to Syria where they were forced into conversation, sexual relations, forced abortions, food labor, and so much more. There is no specific reason as to why this is happening around the world, its not war related or the fault of a fallen country, yet it happens right under our noses.
3a. The subject of this article is human trafficking.
b. The author wrote this article to spread awareness of the dangers of sex trafficking around the world.
c. The intended audience is everybody. This author wants to tell the entire world about what is going on not only in Syria but around the world as well.
d. The author's purpose was to spread the awareness of the dangers of sex trafficking. She wants people to stand up against it and take a stand for what is right.
e. Ewelina U. Ochab, the author of this article, is a human rights advocate and a legal researcher. She fights for the rights of young adolescents and tries to help the best she can.
f. The tone of this article is solicitous. She is aware of what is going on in the world and is concerned about the young children being involved and she wants to help in any way possible.

Free Reading: The Catcher in the Rye

1. J.D Salinger, the author of "The Catcher in the Rye", was a literary icon in the 20th century. Salinger was born in New York on January 1st, 1919. Salinger resided in Manhattan most of his life. From the time he was young he always loved to write stories. Unfortunately, he put his writing to a hold when he was serving in World War II. Once World War II came to an end, Salinger wrote his first story entitled, "A Perfect Day For Bananafish". This story was not only published in the "New Yorker Magazine", but it was also a gateway to his future literary works of art. In 1951, Salinger published his most notable novel "The Catcher in the Rye", but all of this attention and fame was not what Salinger had wanted. Salinger became overwhelmed with the popularity of his writings and became a recluse. It is rumored that in his time of being a recluse he wrote more than ten other novels and stories.
2. "The Catcher in the Rye", written by J.D Salinger, is a classic "coming of age" novel about a boy named Holden Caufield who lives in New York. 16 year old Caufield has been to multiple prestigious schools, but has flunked out of every single one because he didn't apply himself. He was then admitted into a tuberculosis home for checkups daily. But why? Holden has troubles applying himself to social scenarios and in return alienates himself from others and ultimately his own self due the the grief he feels from his brother's death three years prior. Holden tries to distract himself from his problems and tries to go out more, but every time he tries to get with somebody or even talk to anybody they let him down. with these actions, Holden gets in many fights including one with Stradlater and the hotel elevator boy. Some of his issues stem from his brother's death of course, but others stem from a girl he has been in love with for a while named Jane Gallagher, but never ends up actually getting with her. Holden decides to go home to visit his sister whom he hasn't seen in months. Later on in the story his younger sister tries to run away with him, but he won't let her because he wants a better life for her than he has. They end up going to the zoo and his sister rides the carousal. This is the first time Holden is actually happy in a long time. After this day Holden got sick and that is when he was admitted into the tuberculosis center.
3. Theme #1: using Alienation as a form of self-protection
Theme #2: The realization that the real adult world is full of phony people.
Theme #3: The painfulness and experiences of loss of growing up.
4. The essential question that I believe is asked throughout this text (indirectly) is, "Is alienation really a good way to protect yourself?" and my answer is no. Throughout the book we see Holden struggle with life because he alienates himself. That's why he got sick in the first place. He would run away from homes and sleep in the pouring rain at night. he also never really got to talk to Jane because he alienated himself from others when he didn't even recognize it himself. He dropped out of many prestigious schools because once again he didn't apply himself.
5. Holden Caufield: The protagonist of the story and also the narrator. Holden is a 16 year old boy who has troubles dealing with the real world.
Stradlater: Holden's old roommate at Pencey Prep. He seems to be quite full of himself and well.. preppy.
Jane Gallagher: The one girl that Holden finds attractive and kind. Althought never seen in the book she means a lot to Holden.
Pheobe Caufield: Holden's ten year old sister who he loves immensely. She is optimistic in ways but also innocent and kind.
6. Song #1: "Jealous" by Labyrinth.
I think this song would prove fit to describe the pain that Holden feels toward his late brother. In this song it states, "I'm jealous of the way you're happy without me." I interpret this as Holden being jealous that his brother is up in heaven, happy and not suffering while he is on earth struggling with his tuberculosis and alienating properties.
Song #2: "All By Myself" re-sang by Celine Dion. This beautiful song talks about how she doesn't want to be all by herself and alone. which deep down I don't think Holden really wanted to be alone. I just think he didn't know how to open up to people.
Song #3: "Starting Over" by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. This song says "Those three-plus years I was so proud but I threw it all away for some styrofoam cups". To me this represents how three years after his brother died he began to drink heavily and smoke and just stop caring about the quality of life that he could have if he hadn't picked up that first beer.
7. My favorite quote from this novel would be, “Life is a game, boy. Life is a game that one plays according to the rules.” This is told to Holden by Spencer, a teacher at Pencey Prep. It states that in order to get the best out of life you have to play by the rules. Do your work, work hard, experience life in a new way, but also making the right choices.
8. I would recommend this story to young adults, it is a harder read but it is also very good quality and has a good inner outlook on what the adult world is like for us young adults.
