Nowadays this painting is situated at the Museum of modern art in New York. In this picture we can see an unusual placing and structure of the depicted subjects, otherwise, all of them create the overall understanding of the painting. There are three spreading, stretching clocks in the foreground which show that time is about to stop. They represent three stages of human life: the past, the present and the future. In contrast to clocks the artist pictured unbreakable rocks that are situated in the far distance. We can also notice a chopped off trunk of an olive tree on the left of the center. It symbolizes wisdom as the artist said. Salvador Dali painted this picture in brown delicate colors. The middle of the picture is in shadow and the light falls on the background. This sunlight emphasizes the sea which is the symbol of infinity.  The artist demonstrates a great sense of space and makes us to be both scared and calm at the same time.
