I'd like to integrate some partner work into the structured literacy I am using in my special education class. I also want to develop cooperative math groups in problem solving with manipulatives and in interactive practice games.

I am excited to use cooperative groups in a beginning of year kick-off activity. I don't know what that will be yet!

I'm thinking about using cooperative groups as students explore and learn during our geometry unit in mathematics. I have a few ideas of what this might look like. One idea is that students work in partnerships or groups of 3 to create composite shapes (2D or 3D). Another idea is that students sort the objects using their defining attributes and then apply this to 2D and 3D shapes in the classroom. And lastly maybe they also draw the objects to help them understand the shapes defining attributes.

I think cooperative learning is very important especially when I find students are struggling with how to interact with each other. With this being a structured activity it helps guide the students to have positive interactions between each other while working together to learn a new skill.

I really enjoy getting my kids to work together and bounce ideas off each other. As a special education teacher, my kids often do not want to share ideas in larger groups, and are much more likely to share in smaller groups.
