Conflict: Tom wants to be good and have a future in something, he hates school and doesn't enjoy anything there. But, he is very good and loves to play video games, he is then recruited to a interstellar military force where he discovers many dark secrets about the place, he and his friends decide to try to stop the bad things they are doing and help everyone's freedom
Characters: Tom, Medusa, and friends at the spire.
The setting and conflict affect the character the most. If he had not been recruited to the interstellar military there wouldn’t have been this conflict, his life would go on normally and he wouldn’t have any of his friends at the spire and he wouldn’t have a computer chip inside his brain.

Tom has lost fingers by being trapped outside by one of his enemies, has lost friends and even had his father, his only family member lose respect for him.

Tom is always willing to do what he thinks is right for him and others, even though he can be very rough and rude he decides that it is for his and others good, sometimes when he does these things I feel good that he is doing the right thing but sometimes he can do some things that can get him into a lot of trouble.

I also feel bad for Tom because he is very impulsive he does many things without thinking about it, it has gotten him into many conflicts and obstacles.

I wonder how the story would be if Tom wasn’t so impulsive and would think about consequences before saying or doing, I think it would allow him to have less conflicts and less challenges he has to face.

  • In Vortex Tom the main character had been recruited to a special type of military force, I have never been apart of anything related to military, the book showed me that it isn’t easy being in the military and you need to be hard working.
  • Tom loves and is very good at video games, I can relate to this because I also like to play video games and am also good at them.
  • Tom only has his dad in his close family, his mother had left them and he has no other siblings, I don’t relate to this because in my family I have my mother, father and my brother. Tom really showed me what it's like only having your dad and how hard it can be.
  • Finally, Tom is very hard working and never stops even when struggling with obstacles, I can relate to this because if I am passionate about something I try my hardest and continue even when I struggle with obstacles.

I really enjoyed this book, and it went over my expectations. The main character is Tom, he is very impulsive, talented and smart. The book takes in a futuristic time period and a city. The conflict for Tom is that he started off as just a video gamer and wasn't doing well in school, he wants to be something better, someone who can save the world.
