Today is my first day of internship at Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail, Batu Pahat. My working hour is 8.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m.
The unit given by the person in charge is Health Education Unit. I was explained and had briefing about the work that I need to do by the person in charge for this unit. Her name is Madam Shobna.
So my job scope here is to help promote health education to the patients and at the same time need to learn the process of activities held by this unit. It’s was a good day.

Second day, as usual briefing is held by one of the staff nurse. She gave me some books to refer about this unit more detail.
For today’s session she brief about the ways to provides health education services to the patients in terms of recovery until the patient can have changes in their health.
Around 10 a.m. she ask me to assist with her to the ward so that I can observe the ways to promote health education with patients. We just observe five patients. Most of the patients having hypertension and heart problem. First we must make sure the patient is comfortable with us and need to know the causes of disease and give them lifestyle medication. I have take note the informations.

To run these classes the unit need to collaborated with other units such as dietitian, physiotherapy and pharmacy.
The health education classes is to provide health information to patients, families and the public.
For today, my task is to do registration for those patients for attend the classes. Most of the patients using the asthma inhalers wrongly. So from this classes, they know how to conduct asthma medications in proper way.

My task is to arrange the projector so that the patients can get information through the slides and distribute some flyers about cancer.
The health education class for today is conduct by dietitian, pharmacist and doctors only.
Most of the patients have doubts in the foods they should take after the chemotherapy treatment. So, the dietitian explains what type of foods they should and shouldn’t take during the chemotherapy treatment.

Today was my fifth day in HSNI.
I was asked to create a flyer for a upcoming Roadshow for World Cancer Day which going to held on next Tuesday (26/02/2019) in HSNI.
‘Unit Pendidikan Kesihatan’ from Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail is going to organized this roadshow.
I took plenty of time to create a good flyer. They asked me to insert that there will be a session with medical officer and dietitian.

Roadshow for World Cancer Day was held today. This roadshow was started at 9.00 a.m until 1.00 p.m.
This roadshow was collaborated with other units like medical officer and dietitian.
Madam Shobna requested me to invite the visitors or hospital members to the Cancer booth.
I explained to the visitors about the purpose of the Cancer booth. I also told them that there will be a quiz session about Cancer and prizes are provided.

Today my task was assist with the nurse to promote “KLINIK BERHENTI MEROKOK" to the public especially smokers.
This unit will help patients to test their breathing rate by using smokerlyzer.
This monitors measure the amount of carbon dioxide on a smoker's breath.
It is a motivational visual aid to encourage them to quit smoke and to bring a positive behavioral among them.

Today, I and my Health Officer Madam Shobna attend a programme named “Majlis Program Perkhidmatan Berhenti Merokok (M’Quit)” in Putrajaya. This programme is under The Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) which is honoured by Health Minister, Dr Zulkefly Ahmad.
Besides that, our “Unit Pendidikan Kesihatan” from Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail has been awarded at 3rd place for the most active class for “Klinik Berhenti Merokok”.
I got chances to meet some of the well known health education officers under the Ministry of Health in Malaysia.

A “gotong-royong” was held today. This activity was attended by all the staffs from this unit. Among the works carried out during the “gotong-royong” is take out all the unwanted things like old information board.
The activity was also aimed at making the store a clean place from aedes mosquitoes and insects.
Im addiction, such activities can bring the friendship and enhance cooperation between the staffs.

Monday morning I was ask to visit patients at ward and had a talk with them regarding their diagnosis. The diagnosis that I have explain is about Hypertension.
I have go through a patient’s diagnosis. He was admitted here because of high blood pressure. He told that he having some work stress. Furthermore his mother also have hypertension. The staff nurse gave me his case file, so I can go through it. I read it carefully and get to know his history.
It was a good experience handling patient like this. At last I have to give them an appointment for hypertension health education class.

A health education class regarding to “Kelas Berhenti Merokok” was held today. My task for today is to find patients who been affected by smoking habits.
Most of the diagnosis are related to asthma and heart problem. Only two patients from the wad are confirmed to the class. Rather than that, I have to called some patients for their reconfirmation for the appointment.
This class will help the patients to see their breathing rate by using Smokerlyzer. Firstly, I was given a form to take down the patient’s details. I wrote down all the details given by the patients. From this session, I get to know that most of the smokers are influenced by their friends in the younger age.
The next session is one of the staff was incharge to check patient’s breathing rate by using Smokerlyzer. The last session was consult by the doctor and they will fixed their next appointments.

Today was my 4th week in this unit. Today my supervisor Madam Shobna asked me to do report regarding Chronology of chemical pollution in Sungai Kim Kim, Pasir Gudang.
Pasir Gudang has been declared as polluted area because of chemical waste into the river. The chemical in the river been spread to 1.5km and the radius can be spread about 5km. Many students from the schools complained of breathing difficulties and nausea.
Based on the advice of District Disaster Relief Management Committee, the Johor Education Department decided that schools be closed until further notice. Until now total 111 schools has been closed because of the chemical waste. There are 9 types of gases are found in the chemical waste.

For today ‘Unit Pendidikan Kesihatan’ need to attend a programme that conduct by medical department which is “World Tuberculosis Day”. It’s held in Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail.
World Tuberculosis Day is a day to educate the public about the impact of TB around the world. One of the officer gives a talk about TB. He told that tuberculosis is caused by bacteria that spread from one person to another person through microscope droplets released into air.
So for today, my Supervisor requested me to set up a booth for the programme and arrange some flyers which related to tuberculosis. Besides that, our unit prepare a video which related to tuberculosis and play it in the programme.

Today our unit need to arrange the hall for tomorrow's event and a rehearsal has been done.
We arrange the hall in classroom style. This layout introduces rectangular tables and therefore immediately requires more space as attendees sit on chairs in rows behind the tables facing the central presentation area. It is useful for events that require note taking, tests and if access to equipment, refreshments and sweets are provided in every table.
Besides that we have prepare some gifts for the speakers and judges and hamper for the winning team.

The main objective of this event is to enhance the mastery and skills of participants in the field of protocol and management of event or program.
Besides that, we have arrange a group activities among the participants. The topic is regarding how to manage a event. So, there will be divided to three groups and as well as they need to present it in their own creativity.
Prize will be provided to the winning team only and certificate of participation will provide to everyone.

“Kelas Berhenti Merokok” was held today. Most of the smokers who join the program at this clinic are 35 to 60 years old.
One of the patient told me that he was determined to stop smoking after being admitted to ward because he was suspected of having a heart problem.
For today, 2 of our patient are successfully quit smoking. So to those who are quit smoking will received a certificate of appreciation for their successful quit smoking.

This activity mainly focus on promoting immunization by explaining how many times have to take vaccine according to the age and their health condition.

Most of the diagnosis are related to asthma and heart problem. Only two patients from the wad are confirmed to the class. Rather than that, I have to called some patients for their reconfirmation for the appointment.
The next session is one of the staff was incharge to check patient’s breathing rate by using Smokerlyzer. The last session was consult by the doctor and they will fixed their next appointments.

World Malaria Day was held today. This roadshow was started at 10.00 a.m until 1.00 p.m.
This roadshow was collaborated with other units like medical officer.
Madam Shobna requested me to invite the visitors or hospital members to the booth.
I explained to the visitors about the purpose of the Malaria booth.
Malaria is a life-threatening disease. It’s typically transmitted through the bite of an infected Anopheles mosquito. Infected mosquitoes carry the Plasmodium parasite. When this mosquito bites you, the parasite is released into your bloodstream.

As usual for today I need to find out renal or kidney failure patients for the upcoming classes that going to held tomorrow.
It’s very hard to find patients for this diagnosis because almost all the patients there undergo dialysis and they will be weak. If the patients can’t attend the classes, we will ask their family member to attend.

Renal class was done today. Because of lack of patients. I have to find out patients to the classes.
Besides that, I helped the nurse to arrange the projector for the class and do registration for those patients and their family members who attend the class. This class was conducted by the doctor, pharmacist and dietitian.

Today’s my last day at my internship.
I’ve learned a lot about myself and what I want to pursue during my time here. I’ve pushed myself to do things I don’t want to do, and I’ve been introduced to knowledge that I never knew about. I’ve expanded my knowledge and I’ve become more confident in myself and my potential.
Besides that, I was humbled many times in the face of the talented people working here. I focused on how the workers made me a better worker or person, and I thanked them for allowing me to understand my flaws, whether it was directly or indirectly.

“Kelas Berhenti Merokok” was held today.
One of the patient told me that he was determined to stop smoking after being admitted to ward because he was suspected of having a heart problem.
For today, 2 of our patient are successfully quit smoking. So to those who are quit smoking will received a certificate of appreciation for their successful quit smoking.

Near the end of an internship, I scheduling a final check-in with my supervisor to go over their contributions, successes, areas of improvement, and I hand in Borang B to ask for overall feedback about student performance assessment form by industry training supervisor.
From this I will know my assessment of my strengths and weaknesses, because that's valuable information that will help me do better in the next job.
This is also a good time to ask the supervisor if there are any opportunities that they could be considered for or if the supervisor can serve as a reference for future jobs.

Post-mortem is held today for the previous exhibition that we have done. All the members that involved in the exhibition is included in the post- mortem.
Post-mortem is mainly was to find the source of weaknesses and ways to overcome them for the upcoming ceremony. Post-mortem will not get cooperation from the parties involved if they are used to finding fault with someone.

A health education classes on a weekly basic was held. The health education class for today is conduct by pharmacist and doctors only.
The pharmacist conduct the way to put insulin in proper way.

Today this unit had a class on "Kelas Berhenti Merokok" for patients for appointment to attend this class.
This class have four session which is start from wrote down patients personal details in the form, then have to check their breathing rate by using monitor, then give consultation to the patients by the Health Education Officer and finally meet doctors and fixed next appointment.
