Two influences of the teen idols are bubblegum pop and rock 'n' roll. This music was not special and was mass-produced. The artists were mainly just expected to sing. The production was usually made like the "brill building" style. And the lyrics were very unoriginal, generally being about love. Although generally mass produced, there were a few artists that wrote their own music such as Paul Anka, Bobby Darin and Neil Sedaka, that was quite uncommon and it is noteworthy.
