How do Dillard's parents react when she tells them what she discovered when looking through the microscope.
Her parents tell her good job, but they are not very interested.
3. Summary
Annie Dillard is fascinated by microscopes, because she read the book, " The Field Book of Ponds and Streams." After reading this several times, she longed for microscope. Her parents bought her a microscope kit for Christmas. After her tedious exploration for the amoeba, she finds one. She then tells her parents but they lack interest in her find. She realized that she has her own passions and life, and then continues on to figure out that anything is possible and that the sky is the limit.

Her parents will supply her with everything she needs, but she is the only one who can do the work and use those supplies.
2. Annie realizes that she has supportive parents, but in the end she has her own life to live. People may not have the same interests, but that can not stop you from living your own life.
3. This realization affects her by causing her to live her own life. She realized she does not need to worry about others caring for her work, she only has to worry about pursuing her own interests.

1.a. One central idea in the memoir is that you should follow your own passions in life. Do not care about what others think about your passion. Just follow it for your own sake.
b. Another central idea is that despite others giving you materials and support, they will not help you directly. You should not care about that though. For you, the sky's the limit.
c. Annie's thoughts about her mother's words and her parent's actions gave away the themes. Annie realized that everyone has their own pursuits that others may not care for. You do your passion for yourself. Anything is possible and the sky's the limit.
2. I believe that Dillard achieved her purpose of spreading her knowledge to the world. She was not only spreading knowledge of her experiments, but also knowledge of her realizations. That is why she achieved her purpose.
