Nature is a sea of forms radically alike and even unique. A leaf, a sun-beam, a landscape, the ocean, make an analogous impression on the mind. What is common to them all, — that perfectness and harmony, is beauty."
- Henry David Thoreau, "Beauty"

This picture represents Transcendentalism's emphasis of nature as every aspect of nature is apparent in it, suggesting its central position in everyday life, along with its beauty which is discussed in this quote.

This poem by Walt Whitman stood out to me more than any other poem we have covered in this unit because it does not just mention the importance of life, it also explores the point of view of those who find no purpose in life. In the poem, Whitman questions whether there is good in existing if life is filled with foolish people and pointless things, which is the viewpoint of many people, especially in today's society, before he goes on to contradict this pessimistic view. His answer stood out to me because it made me think about how everyone has an effect on the things they do and that they do in fact contribute a verse to life. This is also one of the reasons I loved Dead Poets Society. Every person contributed a verse, like how Mr. Keating was responsible for causing many boys to begin looking at life and poetry in a completely different way. I thought that Mr. Keating's teaching style was very important and influential to the events of the plot, but that the ending could have been avoided if Neil had realized that he could still contribute a verse and find good in existence despite his father.

My verse in this life will be to give back to my community by volunteering my time to help those who need it. I will volunteer at nursing homes or a hospital to give back to my society and help make people's hard days feel easier. I want to help be there for someone who believes they don't have anyone there for them, and as a result, inspire them to be there for others. In the future, I will expand my verse as I plan to become a doctor and influence more people around me. I want to travel to places with people who are less fortunate and help make their lives even just a little bit better. I want to give people a chance to find something in their lives to smile about and help them overcome some of their challenges. As I contribute to my community, I hope to inspire others and give them a chance to find their verse in this world as well.
