To be honest, I am not an avid reader that much like I used to be. To me, reading books will take much time to finish while a movie just lasts for a few hours. Therefore, I’d rather watch movies instead of reading books. But, in retrospect, I did read several books, categorized from the comics to the historic books. And I still remember I used to go to my local bookshop where I could borrow books and continue reading them without having a decent dinner.

Mesmerized by the characters from the books I read, I could have opportunities to apply what I got from them in my real life and encounter several lives that I had never imagined before. According to me, I just pick up a book whenever I feel like reading and I can be on the edge of my seat if it does really intrigue me. I really cherish those moments that I can lost track of time in meeting new characters.

Recently, I just decided that I should immerse myself in my pastime I had looked forward to. What would it be? It’s reading!

I took reading as my partner when I was in primary school. Our school had a library with a variety of books. Actually, what captivated my attention the most at that time wasn’t those books, but a TV in the library. Eventually, though, I started to like library and also the books in it. Back in the past I used to spend my time with a wide range of books. As I’ve gotten older, I don’t have much time to read so many books. However, I still read motivational books and romance books. When I feel left out of the world or feel completely lonely, I find my peace in the comfort of a motivational book. I always bring a book called “from silence to peace” by author Hpa Si Yee Kyaw on my bedside table. I’ve read this book so many times but I’m still reading it. Since it’s not a heavy book, it is easy to reread it. As a hopeless romantic, I read romance books to escape from my real world and land on my imaginary one. Contacting with books saved me from a world where nothing is as it seems.

I usually read many types of books, but I especially enjoy fiction. I read when I want to reduce screen time or when I feel calm. I normally choose books that feel suitable for me, and this one was strongly recommended by my friend. In this book, the author writes in the first person, portraying a young man in his youth who spends many lonely nights searching for meaning in his life. Until he met a young girl named Nastenka, he had never spoken deeply with any girl or felt such strong affection before. She changed his lonely nights into brighter ones. They first met one night, and later continued to meet in the nights, talking and sharing their thoughts. They discussed the books they loved and gradually came to know more about each other. Nastenka revealed that she lived only with her grandmother, and that a man she once loved used to visit their home but had since left. Although the young man cared deeply for her, he knew their relationship could not go further because she made it clear they would remain only friends. On their last night, she reunited with that man and said goodbye, leaving him alone once again. This part of the story is very painful—Nastenka stayed loyal to the one she loved, while the young man suffered from one-sided love. Interestingly, his name is never mentioned, but Nastenka’s appears about 138 times. In the end, as his lonely nights return, I realize that no matter how much loved one gives, it only matters if the other person accepts it.

I mostly read romance and comedy books. I usually read in my spare time. When I was young, my mom owned a bookshop, at that time, I always read cartoon books. When I became a teenager, my teacher gave me an assignment to read a book. I didn’t know which books should I choose. However, my friend recommended a book that was full of intrigue and vibrant storytelling. The book was “Po Chit Ya Tae Tu Ko Pl Pyit Par Zay” by Jue. That was the first romance book novel I had ever read, because I had never read this kind of book before. But it was fantastic, heartwarming for me, and became one of my favorite books. I was hooked on that romance novel, staying up all night to finish it. For me, I don’t usually choose which books to read. I read the books my friends recommend to me because we have a similar tastes. Most of the books I read make me feel nostalgic and uplifted.

Books used to be my best childhood friend. When I was six years old, my mom bought me the very first book of my life, named “Pa lote tote”, which is an appealing kid’s book collaborated by many of the brilliant writer’s varieties of writing styles including comic style, poems, story telling and so on. That was my beginning of becoming a book worm.

As a child, I was captivated by comics or stories rather than complex and serious themes which are favored by adults. I would say books like “Pa lote tote” and “Shwe Thway” magazines painted my dull lonely childhood at home. A little while later, I started to adore Burmese historical books or royal-themed books whether fiction or not, such as “The Kings of Bagan” and “Royal Myanmar Novels”. One of my favorite books is a classic novel written by Sayar Chit Oo Nyo called “Lin Kar Di Pa Chit Thu’. He portrayed each of the characters’ feelings admirably in that how love differ from obsession and how much faithfulness do lovers need. I have also drawn into romance books thanks to that book. But I would rather look for books with happy ending. But then I was excited to read biography and fantasy. Some of my beloved books were first recognized by movies, like “Harry Potter” and “Foreat Gump”. It was delightful to spend time with literature indeed.

So far, I have not been enable to read according to my stressful daily schoolwork and I rather watch movies to save my time, and I hope I will have more time to read again.

There is a saying that books are the key to the new world, so Books have always been a special part of my life. I hardly read fiction, as I could watch a movie instead. I like reading motivational books, such as those inspired and encouraged me. These books energized me to keep working. Personally, I read them to finish it quickly because I have a particular kind of ADHD, which makes it difficult for me to leave tasks unfinished. However, I reread when I think I am depressed. I do not have specific time for it. As a teenager in 21st century, finding books to read is not a problem for me. As soon as I see books that are trending, I immediately buy them. Among all the books I have read, My favorite ones are Bamaw Thein Phay's books. He books usually can makes us more engaging. His books come in many genres- funny, emotional, and based on true stories, but they share one thing in common: they are motivational. Overall, books are not only stories to me, they are friends, teachers, and all sources of motivation.

I hope there is no one who don't read books because books can heal us and give many kinds of feelings. So do I, I read books which are like ancient historic, fantasy, and romance. I rarely read in this year due to my eye condition and also lately, reading by e-book is different from book. If I'd say when do I read books, I read when I feel clear-minded, bored, and want some inspiring idea. As I mentioned above, my taste in books and I mostly read Sir Chit Oo Nyo's, Sir Khat Zaw's, and Sir Mya Than Tint's books. Those books give varieties of taste that I want. I do like books of those authors, but that one book stayed in my mind even it's been long that I read is Sir Chit Oo Nyo's "HninKayThayar ThuYeKaung". In this book, a young woman and a man face many struggles but remain loyal to love each other. This last part touched me so deeply and made me cry. Books give us many different feelings, just like movies do.
