Her poem is an excellent representation of the dialectal variation across the Caribbean region, as she focused on the language of Trinidad and Tobago. One interesting thing that I have learnt is that each territory may have a unique word to describe the same thing but it takes a keen observation to learn the differences.  One such example is with an East Indian sweetmeat as depicted below which is common across the region.
In Guyana, we refer to it as Mithai while in Trinidad it is known as Kurma and in Grenada, it is known as Kumar. The same ingredients are used to make it but it has three different names: Mathai, Kurma and Kumar.
