Getting to and from places in Japan might seem like a difficult task, especially during rush hour which takes about an hour and a half. But, Japan has got transportation down to a schedule. Public transportation such as taxis, buses, or underground trains make a successful effort to get places to and from places on time. As for people driving their own cars, it's perfectly fine, but in order to own your own car, you have to prove that you have a parking spot considering the limited parking places in Japan.

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=video&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwipwb_TiKHMAhXIs4MKHfVrCpEQtwIIHDAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dp2q5G7BzEP8&usg=AFQjCNGwAbyTcZVl0nemHUTLVINWLLfiqg

Currently, Japan is running out of flat land to build homes the size of homes we have here in the U.S. About fifty or so years ago, families consisted of immediate family and and extended families, which means each house had all of their relatives living together. Nowadays, households hold just immediate family. The houses are getting smaller on the scarce amount of land they have left, but it's a livable situation. In order for the situation to be livable, there needs to be ways to make the houses and furniture do more than the average can in the U.S. Most everything in Japan is made super small so that space in the house can be preserved. Some appliances are contractible and are able to be put away easily.

Land use in Japan can cause conflicts, but they have found ways to fix it: either find better uses for the land, or make new land. It's is a much more effective way to handle the scarce amount of land left compared to burning down what has been built! To preserve space, building taller buildings sounds like a good temporary idea, considering Japan is an active earthquake zone. Since the 1960's, the Japanese have improved their way of building and made buildings taller that can withstand strong shakes. Another reasonable way to preserve the land is to build underground. This way there can be more land, and more homes/workplaces. Although this is killing crucial sources of food, Japanese people create land by placing rubble and dirt in marshes and bays.

Japan is considered one of the cleanest countries in the world. Although, Japan has suffered numerous pollution issues. Air pollution affects people everyday, and especially as the population grows. Since the rainfall contains excessive amounts of Acid, that can harm people and animals through the water system. Water streams have also been contaminated with toxic chemicals from factories. In the 1950's highly toxic Mercury was dumped into the Minamata bay. People who ate Fish from the contaminated water suffered many symptoms, and pregnant women gave birth to babies with severe birth defects.

Life Expectancy
