         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><strong><sub>Sports by Kyle Bratcher</sub></strong><sub><br></sub><br></div><ul><li><sub>Sports had began to evolve, blacks and whites had began to play together leading to more crowds in the stadiums (Gigliotti 9).&nbsp;</sub></li><li><sub>The 1950 University of California, the Golden Bears football team was almost perfect they were the first team to ever go 10-0 two consecutive years but loose in the Rose Bowl (Gigliotti 10).</sub></li><li><sub>The New York Yankees had won the Pennant for their second straight win and 9th championship in 15 years. October was considered a ritual for the Yankees because they were always playing ( Gigliotti 15).</sub></li><li><sub>In 1951 “The Shot Heard Round the World” became famous. Bobby Thomson hit the game winning homerun at Polo Grounds it was known as the shot heard round the world. Thomson hit the game winner against the Brooklyn Dodgers. This hit got them to the pennate against the Yankees (Gigliotti 23)</sub></li><li><sub>Rams rookie Dick “Night Train” Lane set a NFL record for most passes intercepted in a single season with 14 in 1952. Dick Lane left a huge mark on Football he was very popular and he got his name from big hits in the secondary (Gigliotti 33)&nbsp;</sub></li><li><sub>Mickey Mantle had come to the Yankees to fill in for the great Joe Dimaggio people were worried that this new center fielder couldn’t fulfill Joe’s shoes. Mickey was determined to be great so every game he played his heart out.
