1. Government is any type of established system that keeps people in order, usually within a country, state, or province. Large groups of people cannot govern themselves individually so there needs to be a system of rules, laws, and punishments to try and keep everyone in line. Politics is what orchestrates the government. It is any politician or political party. It is also the strong opinions, debates, and divides within the government. Government and politics are related because politics are the deciding factor of what goes on within the government. Politics determines who individual people elect to represent them and to enforce the systems of the government within their political party and/or individual beliefs.

2. That quote is more concerning than it is hopeful in my opinion. Since politics is essentially the deciding factor of what goes on within government (which is supposed to represent all), it shouldn't be a matter of "who" but a matter of "everyone". "Everyone gets what, when, and how" would be a better way to define it if it were realistic that way, but in reality it truly is a matter of who. Who is most deserving or who is most needy. Politicians decide who that may be. The hopeful factor of this definition is that people are getting something someway and somehow. Even though certain groups may be focused on more than others within politics, at least these groups are receiving aid/attention from their government. Overall, politics deals with a lot more than what people are getting, when they're getting it, and how they are getting it, so the definition may be accurate in some areas but it doesn't represent politics as a whole.

1. Government is basically a formal and informal institution in which they are able to come together and create public policy. The government is a system that is able to keep a country and state in order and the people within it. The government is also where we see the three branches of government come into place. Such as: the Judicial, Executive, and Legislative Branches where they each hold power. Then when there are very large groups there has to be rules enforced such as laws so that people don't get out of hand. Those laws are what is made by the government so that these large groups of people stay in line. Now, politics is where people show how they feel and come up with debates which is basically a conflict created with another party or group. The way that the government and politics is related is because politics are the ones who do the debates so that they are able to vote and choose who is able to be their "leader" or represent them. Which leads to that important person to help the government. They overall relate to one another because the politics is what helps lead to the government so that the government can make the decisions meaning the politics is the deciding factor.

2. I feel like if I really had to choose I would put this quote as more concerning and less hopeful. The reason that I feel it is more concerning is because it should not matter of what people is "who". I feel this way because politics are to help the government. The politics are supposed to be helping large groups meaning lots of people. So I feel that it should be said as either "everyone" because it should be put towards all the people and it not making it seem as if it is towards specific people. Now, the reasons that I feel it is kind of hopeful is because at least these politics, the people, government or whoever knows that something is coming at some point and in someway after some time which is coming from the "when." I feel that this helps solve problems because as I said people know that something is coming to people at some point. However, I feel that problems can be cause because certain people could get mad and ask is it everyone that it effects or just certain people? Or, how long it would take? Overall, I feel that it is more concerning because the politics are basically the deciding factor for the government. Meaning a matter of everyone and not just "who."

1. The government is any group or organization that is in charge of keeping order. Government is essentially working together to provide order and make sense of things for the United States and its people. It is involved in almost every aspect of our lives. The government can be in charge of small groups of people, or much larger groups of people. This is because if people were left to take care of themselves, it would not end up very well. The government is pretty set in stone for what they do and why they do it. Politics is more opinion based to me. Politics supports the process and ideas of the government. This is where individual thoughts and concerns come out for the people. This is where action can be taken with laws and power. The political latter is what you climb in order to make change within a government. These two things are very intertwined. They support each other with their actions and ideas. Politics helps to support the change within the government and the government gives those political parties a platform.
2. I definitely was put back slightly by the forwardness of the quote. There is some hope within that sentence however. Politicians and political parties are the deciding factors in how laws and actions affect people. They also influence who is effected by which laws. This can be extremely hopeful with the right political party. A party who has the best interest of every citizen puts hope behind that statement. I definitely find this definition more concerning than hopeful though. This is because there are little to no people willing to look out for everyone. Most politicians have a more personal agenda and they stick to it. Politics are messy and selective, and the quote only supports that idea. It is almost like there is an arrogant feel to that quote. Like the idea of politics and politicians is somehow "above" other things. I don't like it.

1. The government is a system of organized people that are in control of a local city, state, or nation. Finding the balance of power in a government is a difficult but important task because they must have enough power to govern the people and keep them in line, but they should not have enough power to oppress civilians rights. Politics are activities associated with change in the government such as debates and elections. These debates and elections give civilians a voice in who they want running their government which makes the two directly related. However, politics include a lot more opinion based substance and allow the people to form their own thoughts on where they stand with different matters that take place in society.

2. Politics is indeed a way of determining "who gets what, when, and how" and although there is some hope that comes along with this quote for the mere fact of possibly getting your best interest put forward, the quote in my opinion is a lot more concerning. Here is why... the government is helped shape by politics but the government also provides rules and methods that shape the way politics operate, which ultimately puts them control of the very thing people can use to have a say in the government. Therefore this quote is essentially saying the government is a way of determining "who gets what, when, and how" which completely undermines the whole point of politics. In most instances the government only has a certain group of peoples best interest at heart which means the rest of the people suffer.

Whitney, great post! I liked the way you defined government as well as politics. It was very clear and collective! I would also like to agree that the government is involved in almost every aspect of our lives whether that be a good thing or a bad thing. I think it is good to have a clear and strong opinion, however I believe the fact that politics is so opinion based is the very thing that divides America in such a negative way, not that we can help that. I liked how you spoke on the political ladder and how climbing to the top allows you to make change within the government, but have you ever questioned if certain people decide who makes it to the top of said political ladder?

Maddy, good job with the post! Your thoughts and ideas were very clearly presented and easy to understand. Like you I also found the quote to be more concerning then hopeful for many of the same reasons. I 100% agree with your statement about it shouldn't be a matter of who but should take in account everyone. Another thing to think about is that politics is indeed the deciding factor of the government but the government also controls the rules and methods that shape how politics operate, so essentially they are in more control over politics then they should be.

1. Government is a set of rules and institutions people set up so they can function together as a unified society. Politics is used to describe how power is distributed in the government. They are different because politics are a subcategory of the government. It can be a politician or political party. The government cannot function without politics. They are related because politics allow the government to function. Politics are crucial to the government because they are the deciding factor of what goes on within the government.

2. This quote is mostly concerning to me. Politics are the deciding factor of what goes on within government. This means that it should be a matter of "everyone", not just "who". The more hopeful side of this quote is that with politicians and political parties being the deciding factor in government, the right party can benefit the government in the right way. This can benefit the citizens and the nation as a whole.

1. The government is any organization put in place to keep people or differen't societies normally big groups of people in place by applying and enforcing rules. This has an impact on , individuals, small towns, big city's, countries, and almost everyones day to day lives. In America with out the government things like our mail being delivered, having police protection, schools, and drinking unpolluted water wouldn't really look the same. While things inside our government is forever changing everyday I dont think the basic idea itself will be going away anytime soon. While government is more like management and administative levels, polotics is more opinion based pursuing an idolegly not always for the good of the people. Poltics are involved with promoting the change with in governemnt. While poltics is made to give the people a voice in who's control of us and our govenment I believe it has failed to do so and is overshadowed by the media and divison between the two main political parties. I believe that the idea of government and politics is good, but that the government is too involved in our everyday lives, and that politics have become corrupt.

Now politics are beliefs in how the government should be ran. Politics are important because it dictates how the government will dictate our lives. The government has split the political system in two separate political systems, left and right, democrat and republican, donkey and elephant. This is easier for the government to control.
2. This quote breaks down into simple words how politics actually work. The quote makes us humans sound like live stock, which is concerning. the government can decide whether or not you get the necessities to live. I guess it's hopeful though because politics aren't as confusing as we think, it's just like he said, "who gets what, when, and how."

The government basically goes about making, enforcing, and settling disputes about the law. Politics determines who holds what power and how power is distributed. Politics is very important within the government because it decides what goes on in the government and who does it. They both go hand in hand because the government needs politics to help make decisions so the government can make them.

2. When reading the quote to me its a little concerning.

1- The government is a set system of things like laws or rules that keep a group of people in line or in order. It allows people to work together as one society and get along better. On the other hand, politics are things that happen in the government. Politics have to do with the people that are involved in the government and they have a say in what the government decides. Also involved in politics are two separate political parties that are the republicans and the democrats. They have these because it allows for people to gravitate towards a side and it is also easier for the government to control or keep track of.
2- In my opinion, the quote is more concerning than hopeful. The reason that I feel this way about the quote is because politics are really what our government revolves around and it is implying that only one person will get something and they decide when that happens and how it happens. With that being said, I think that instead of it being revolved around one person it should be about everyone and the government as a whole. Although I think that quote is more concerning I do understand that it might be hopeful to others and that is great for them.

1. The government is a system that has already been set that. The government has a large amount of power over people, and are in charge of big important decisions. The difference between government and politics, is that government is already set, and has been chosen, versus in politics, it's two groups which is republican, and democratic parties, that go up against each other to get the person who they vote for to be president. So politics are like a game in a way I think. Politics are the build up to who goes where in what position in the government. The government relies on politics. That's what makes them related.
2. I think that the quote is more concerning than hopeful. The quote to me seems like a certain group is getting something when they want, what they want, and how they want. It doesn't seem like it works out for both sides, so it seems like someone is going to be upset at all times while the other party is happy because they get what they want. Maybe I'm wrong but it doesn't seem like both sides will be happy in the end.

They are similar because they both strongly influence the direction of our country, but politics is what changes government, and government get's adjusted and changed.
2) The hopeful part of this is that it means that all parties will end up getting what they want and something will come eventually. The concerning part is like what is happening in our country right now, with many republican rules that have been passed despite popular vote.

1.)Government is what is in charge of the citizens. I think of government as a whole set of people who are in charge. Politics are what is in government, it is people who are seperated into different parties to cater to different opinions and people. Both terms are to help society work together smoothly and keep people, and things working in correlation with each other. Many people in politics have super strong opinions on how a country should be ran and what they stand for.
2.) I think the quote is concerning because to me it just matters about who you are and what things you have rather than your personalilty and what you stand for. I think it should be everyone and not just who. I think the hopeful part is both parties can get a chance to get what they want to a certain extent depending on who's in power.

1. The government is full of rules, it is what keeps our country together, and it makes up the three branches of the government. It is used to enforce, and brings laws together. The government is what split up the political system into two. Democrats and republican, left and rights as some say or explain it. Allowing people to believe and vote for what they want and choice to do. This is what politics are, they have opinions on how our country is being ran, and stand for what they believe. Being split into two groups helps the government to control it better and for people to pick which side they want to be "labeled" as .

2. The quote basically symbolizes how politics work, I feel this quote is concerning because politics control the government. The quote kinda seems as if they are looking and choosing who, and what certain people get. The quote also is stated in a very simple and honest way, it is a better way to look at politics if you're confused.

1. Government is made up of people who work for the nation, state, or city. Politics doesn't have to be related to government, it can be related to any controversial issue.
2. I think this quote is a little upsetting because it implies that government is just about getting things. However, it kind of it. Government is all about getting things done and changing things for (hopefully) the better. Lately people in government just want to "win" and beat the other side though, which isn't ideal..
