I really touched by the author's idea about educators should leave their personal lives at the door when they are with children. It is because educators' emotion and past experiences directly effect on what they will do and how they will reflect and respond to children's everything. I want to share a quote from the author that really hits me. "...It becomes difficult for us to leave our personal life at the door if we do not take the time to understand how early childhood experiences influence our responses." - Tamar Jacobson

One thing that really hit me and put me into thought after reading this chapter was how important it is for a professional to stay neutral and avoid all our stereotypes and bias away from the workplace and with children. The environment in which we were raised makes a huge impact on our perspective and nature.

My take away from this chapter was that ultimately all of us are working on confronting our emotions, separating our emotions from other aspects of our lives, and reflecting on our behaviours to better understand ourselves. With this realization we should try to be more compassionate, supportive and understanding to those in our community.

Rachel Grant

Rupinder K Dheria

I really felt and understood to the best of my ability that an educator must know themselves really well. We must be in touch with our emotions and acknowledge them and validate them. We must figure out how to face them and move forward without hurting ourselves and others. Any stereotypes, any negative thoughts and triggers should be dealt with in a healthy way so that they don't interfere with an educators role in the workplace. Children deserve and have the right to an emotionally strong individual to be their teacher.

Chapter 2 Take away
My takeaway from this chapter was that we have to separate our own biases and stereotypes from the professional environment. Also, learn how to self-reflect and be aware of our own feelings, have an active interaction with our students avoiding non-judgmental statements. However, pretending to be the best educator is one of our big expectations, we need to understand that may be difficult but not impossible and ig=f we put enthusiasm into this we can obtain fantastic results.

Flora Duenas
