What are indicators??
How can we create one?

Example to prepare a natural indicator as an experiment:

Aim: Create a natural indicator using red cabbage.

Objective: To find out whether red cabbage is a natural indicator.

Experiment:

Chop some red cabbage and put it in a mixer or a blender.

Add water to it and mix it until a juice is prepared.

Strain this mixture into a glass.

Take different substances like lemon, milk, vinegar, ammonia, bleach etc and mix it with the red cabbage solution.

The color of the substance will change according to their acidity of basicity.

Observation: Acidic substances change the color of the solution from purple to red or pink. Neutral substances turn the purple solution to blue. Basic substances change the color of the purple solution to green or yellow.

Conclusion: Therefore, we can say that red cabbage is a natural indicator.

Questions that would lead to a new research:
This is a small method of making the indicator, but what are limitations while making this which need to be considered if I wish to test the acidic or basic nature with the pH indications of either soil or water in my area or may be the food that I eat.
How can I take a small experiment to prepare a natural indicator for a research point?
Can I create a sample of the indicator for my own school labs for teachers to use while performing experiment ?
What are the different concepts that you should be knowing to prepare the indicator and why the indicators works this way.

Reason to use of natural indicators/ Introduction:
Synthetic indicators are very costly and many of them cause environmental pollution and have toxic effects.
The intention for using these natural indicators as alternative to synthetic available indicators is its easy availability, eco-friendly and cost effectiveness. (SDG goal)

Go ahead and now find out how will You prepare your indicator naturally and where & what will you use this for with its importance. Give a Research question and a Hypothesis for the same using the google link given in the next slide.
