I chose to go small for this topic and local. I'm a huge advocate for the animals out here to have safe and beautiful homes. Charleston has a massive "dump" spot in Summerville where doggies and kitties are just abandoned and then the shelters become overloaded. i have three dogs of my own and 2 came from them. I chose the issue of minimum wage and why it needs to be raised across the united states, not just one state at a time.  The article explores how 23 states increased their minimum wage requirement, and the type of increase each one was.  These range from inflation adjustments to classic legislation.  
Minimum wage needing to be increased is a frontrunning topic that has always come up in every school and grade level I've been in. South Carolina's minimum wage is only 7.35/hr, with tipped employees eligible to take home up to 5.12 additionally (but let's be real, that doesn't happen at every tipped employee establishment).
