In a nutshell, he informs us that learning is the first step in understanding a concept or piece of information. During this procedure, we sometimes fail, analyze why we failed, and overcome our failures. This can happen repeatedly, but we always learn and take away something from the experience. I don't believe proficiency alone will be the best method in determining the understanding of concepts in my field. The "Growth" approach makes more sense when working with students who are already struggling with school because of their disability.
