They have the same molecular composition, they are just made in different ways. Natural diamonds come naturally from the earth. Synthetic diamonds are made by scientists in a lab. There are pros and cons to both. One of the pros of natural diamonds are that it might feel a little more special to receive a "real" diamond. Some of the cons are that they are a lot more expensive than synthetic diamonds and may have imperfections because they were created in uncontrolled environments. On the other hand, some of the pros of a synthetic diamond are that they are considerably cheaper than natural diamonds and they also won't have imperfections because they are made in a controlled environment. They clog landfills and take hundreds of years to break down fully.
