International students are failing to assimilate into American universities at an increasing rate (Fischer, 2014).
Why is it a problem?
Failure to assimilate can lead international students to struggle academically and socially, and may even cause students to abandon their study plans and return to their home countries. This research aims to presents a curriculum initiative that aims to encourage the ‘internationalization’ of international student experience. This initiative, entitled the ‘Global Citizenship Project’ hopes to encourage international student engagement with their immediate environment and explores how the curriculum should aim towards accepting and understanding the needs of multicultural learning. The goal is to empowering learners to share their own cultural capital to becoming a global citizen.
Why is it important to discuss this problem?
International students diversify campuses, create opportunities for cultural exchange, and are an important source of tuition income for universities. Figuring out the best methods/programs for supporting and retaining those students is in the interest of both the students and the universities with large international student population.

Data Analysis: Mixed Methods

Based on the research approaches I have chosen to look at, the data collection method would utilize mixed data sources (Bogdan & Biklen, 1998). Case studies may also be appropriate, but as this study would be looking to make more generalization, case studies would be a good follow up to the answers created by this study after there was less abstraction. My data looks to come from a survey targeting international students and one on one interviews. The constant comparative model would allow me look for the key issues and recurrent themes and follow Glaser’s steps as described by Bogdan & Biklen (1998)
