At my middle school, we developed a structure with guidelines and then let the students develop their own individual projects or group projects. For example, 6th graders completed service learning at the school wide level, 7th graders at the city level and 8th grade did state/country level. We started the planning in the fall and implemented our service by spring semester. My 6th graders wanted more shade for the school yard!-Michelle
