Each of us is unique in a variety of ways, and I want our classroom community to build on our strengths. I want each of us to feel heard and seen so that we can openly discuss our experiences and learn from each others'. We are all balancing different facets of life with our schoolwork, and it is important to me that we show up to this space with that mutual understanding and with the intent to make this time meaningful. We should all be able to rely on one another and never be afraid to ask for help or clarification.

I value comfort. I have battled my whole life with ADHD so I really struggle staying in one spot or focusing for long periods, of course I’m better than I was when I was 10 but it is still a little bit of a struggle. I love to grow my brain and teach my students in really engaging (project based) ways.

It is really important for me to be in an open-minded and sincere classroom environment, which I am happy to have seen so far. I deeply believe these values help us bond, share our thoughts, and bring our identities to the table, making learning more meaningful and fruitful. I believe when we feel safe in this way, that’s when true learning begins and I feel I can let the best in me out with everybody.

I like group work and thoughtful discussions. I also like to collaborate with classmates on class projects and assignments. I like to plan ahead, so it helps me a lot to know all the details and expectations for each assignment in advance. For bigger assignments or projects, I would really appreciate if they could be broken down into smaller parts to complete step by step.

I'm not sure if we need to come at 4:15 pm every time, but it might be hard for me.

I love classes with meaningful activities, readings, and discussions that I can return to my own classroom with. I'm always looking for those brilliant "low floor, high ceiling" activities that inspire me as an person but are accessible and exciting for many levels.

In my ideal classroom community, I value respect, curiosity, and collaboration. I enjoy being in a space where everyone's voice matters, and we are encouraged to bring our own perspectives and backgrounds into discussions.

I’m most engaged when the classroom environment feels safe and inclusive, where mistakes are viewed as part of the learning process. I appreciate it when we encourage questions, respect differing opinions, and support one another’s growth.

Some special features or norms I’d love to see in our community include:

Open dialogue where we’re not afraid to challenge ideas constructively.
Peer feedback is a regular practice to help us improve and reflect.
Technology-friendly practices that enhance learning, not distract from it.
Opportunities for student choice in projects or readings based on our interests.

What brings out the best in me is when I feel that my contributions are valued and when we’re all engaged in meaningful, real-world learning. A sense of humor and joy in the classroom also helps a lot!
