This quote stood out to me because it says that our actions have an impact. We are unaware of its impact until the action is completed. Once the action has occurred, we as individuals connect via the response we have to the action. We are not always conscious of this connection.

I remember that it was on Sunday at noon. We bought supplies of food and drinks that we distributed later to all the homeless that were near that area. I believe this could be an example of a time when I took “action” as I participated in an act of compassion on a social issue. The reason I talked about this event is because it was one of them, and I feel proud to have contributed. As I saw all those families with kids hungry and coming to pick up the food we bought for them, I just felt really happy to help them in a certain way.

Allison is talking about Latasha, a young African American who was killed in 1991. I love the message that Sophia is conveying in this quote as she explains the main purpose of the film she made about Latasha, which was to focus on her life before the tragic incident. She wanted to go beyond the limited information shared by the news or the internet and help people not just focus on the story of a black girl who was murdered. Sophia wanted the memory of Latasha to be more meaningful, so she made a film about the story of a young African American who had dreams, lived her own experiences, and the way she impacted the lives of people around her.

This movement resulted in me taking action is getting involved in protests near my city/town. Being from a small town close to Minneapolis where  this tragedy started it hit close to home. A question I often think about related to this movement is who started it. How did such a large stance of protest begin? Who started the first protest? This leads to a connection in class of the physical being of where communities meet. When learning about public and private space in class is is often thought of as everywhere is public space. When thinking of BLM protest I remember there being commotion talk around the destruction or private businesses. This was a connection that was discovered and thought of by my question above.

I think this really stands out to me because I think so many people are afraid of challenging the status-quo, so we do not act. We, as a society, are afraid of abolition, not because a lot of people oppose it, but because we don't have a set system, so we feel afraid. 
I think also if you are really passionate about an issue, you will fight for it even if you might not win. This aligns slightly with the idea of being on the right side of history. Would you rather be on the winning side or the moral choice?

This is about a young African-American girl named Latasha who was killed in 1991. From this, they made a documentary "A Love Song for Latasha". I like the message that comes from the quote and the documentary. I had never seen something like this before and I could connect it to my personal life. Even though, demographically I can not relate to the community; I still have empathy and correlate it to my life. Through traumatic experiences, authors like Allison can bring stories to real life and raise awareness on hot topics. Overall, this story is a great representation of young African-American girls who are living their struggles and have their dreams & goals. This quote really stood out because the whole documentary's purpose was to acknowledge and appreciate Latasha's life and they were able to do so through anecdotes and the style of filming and editing. This quote was really impactful because it really brought everything to life from the viewer's perspective as a viewer we didn't know Latasha personally but after watching this documentary we were able to understand that Latasha is more then a statistic and she was a real person with a real family that deserved more then what happened.

A question I had was how are we going to share other's stories? This tradition has been happening for over 30 years in downtown Tucson. The experience is one of mixed emotions because it can be sad, joyful, and exciting. You feel a real connection with your community because you all have one thing in common, loss. The Tucson culture really shines through with the food, fashion, art, music, and dancing. Every dollar that I made would be donated to research and to people who were suffering. At the end of the year, they had a giant party at the park for everyone who wanted to support. It was truly amazing to see how many people were at the fundraiser showing support and I felt good just to be there. There were people who had close family suffering from leukemia and also people who didn't know anyone but just wanted to be there. We have taken many trips that educate us about wild life but when we went to Catalina Island  that stook out to me the most the island is dedicated to science on one side and the other is designated for tourist . The scientific side has enrolled many programs to protect endangered animals and reefs which fascinate me.
