The British imposed this rule to try and stop out smuggling but it gave the British courts the right to try colonial smugglers because they knew that the colonial courts were lenient on smuggling. This took away power from the colonial courts which enraged the colonists because they did not have any representation. This act impacted lawyers and people that worked for the newspaper. This lasted until protesters organized the Stamp Act Congress which wanted people to boycott British Goods. This congress was the first time that the colonies acted in a united way. This helped people be aware of their “liberties and Natural Rights”. The British repeal the Stamp Act and then pass the Declaratory Act. The Stamp Act helped unite the colonies and told people that they deserve there rights and no one should be stripped of them. This was started in order to argue against the 1773 Tea Act. In this fit of anger, the colonists dressed up as Indians and dumped a lot of tea into the Boston Harbor causing up to $4,000,000 in damages. This was done after the Tea Act because the colonists thought that because the British put a tax on the tea, they could tax whatever they wanted. This rebellion for representation also impacted the choice for the Revolution. Massachusetts then passes a set of resolutions telling colonists to disobey the Intolerable Acts, to stop paying taxes, and prepare for war. This sparked the first colony wide government igniting the flame that would take them through the American Revolution.
