Lyle French Rocked My Teaching!

I learned from Lyle that simply standing up can increase the blood flow to the brain by 5-10%! Blood flow and oxygen feed the brain and help students (whether teens or adults) be more alert. Also, counting activates the left side of your brain where dopamine receptors are, so this can help bathe the brain in feel-good hormone - i.e. more learning and fun in the classroom. Great takeaways, immediately useable in my class and with teacher PD. Thanks, Lyle!!!!

I sat in on the fishbowls to hear what our students had to say about some vital areas of their life and school - incredibly insightful and well spoken responses. I think there were some strong take-aways from this experience....definitely things to consider as we move forward this year. These changes are small things that will have huge impacts.

Above is a statement from David Conley, which reminded me of the need to adapt my teaching to reflect the changing world that both my students and I live in. Whether I do change or don’t change I am taking a risk assessment that can impact the trajectory of the lives of my students. This type of reaffirmation always gives me the needed boost to ………….What’s the word I am looking for???................Oh yeah INNOVATE my teaching. Thanks to all that made that possible.

I applied Alan November's suggestion of Prism.scholarslab.org today and students were keen. David Conley's extended collection of command terms is an awesome and explicit reminder of how we can check on deeper learning in the creation and execution of EVERY assignment or conversation. Today I spent more time allowing students to talk about their own conceptions of culture at the expense of the academic sources on culture.. hopefully those few minutes "lost" were actually a longterm gain...We can't do everything!
