ICB PT.2 - Chapter 1

Capote expands on the sentiments being experienced by the men partially in charge of burning blood-soiled furniture and objects, former hunting partners of Mr. Herb, as he includes how one of the men, Stoecklein, "sprinkled" the items and set them ablaze. The connotative diction of gently sprinkling items just to burn them is used as a indication of the delicate apprehension held towards items which once belonged to a family and have been, like the families core legacy, been reduced to ash.

Capote uses the words of the actual detective in order to further his ethos and help to develop the chapters focus on the detectives thought process in trying to figure out who the killer may be. The detective and some of his colleagues came up with two theories the "single-killer concept" and the "double-killer concept". The first concept is based off the idea that it was one person although theirs a unanimous agreement that the most likely answer is two people as the type of knot that was used on all of them was the same which would be realistically impossible for one person to not only tie the knot on the family members but to also do so while not being attacked by the other family members.

Capote surmises the sentiments aloft throughout the greater-Holcomb area by emphasizing the anxiety felt by everyone during the night. After describing the significant purchase of locks made out of everyone due to their own fears, Capote continues to develop the feelings coursing through residents and acknowledges the lack of safety felt as whether a residence is locked in, a personified terror has the ability to enter every home.

ICB PT.2 - Chapter 4

Capote is exploring the emotions and actions of Perry and Dick towards each other in order for us to have a grater understanding of their personalities and how they work as a pair just how they did when they committed the murder. Perry and Dick have a close yet somewhat strained relationship. Capote is trying to humanize them trying to show that despite the fact they committed murder their still human. Perry specifically is a more gentle person than Dick and is trying to build that up through the conversations they have with one another.

Capote makes himself responsible for the delicate navigation of emotions being felt by Bobby Rupp, a formerly close companion to the family through his relationship with Nancy Clutter, as he implies to the Clutter's legacy. In subtly including through the diction the connotative phrase "flower-crowded parlor", we are both reminded of the Clutter's lively and popular nature within life but also presented a stark contrast to the coffins which the flowers embroil.

ICB PT.2 - Chapter 6

Capote ends chapter 6 with a statement made to question the security of the friendship between Dick and Perry. Perry has had an almost unwavering loyalty to Dick despite him not always treating him well. Perry is know coming to the realization that Dick doesn't view him the way he does. To Perry Dick all though mean at times is like a star to him while Dick views Perry as just another guy. Capote wants us to feel bad for Perry as he's in way over his head with a man who doesn't value him as much as he values him. Capote wants us to understand that Perry isn't a good person but neither is Dick it's just that Perry's putting his trust in someone who doesn't trust him nearly as much.

ICB PT.2 - Chapter 7

Capote begins to further showcase his inclination towards the Clutter family murderers as he begins through added commentary through the investigator Al Dewey. By adding this commentary, the murders become even more questionable as despite murdering an entire family, they are also credited to have made sure the family was comfortable upon death. The irony of this emphasis is that the murders have, regardless of situation, murdered a family in cold blood.

ICB PT.2 - Chapter 8

Capote mentions the key difference that Perry and Dick have between each other in order to create a more compelling story and build the narrative on how not only was the family victims but one of these two men were as well. Dick has people that he can love but chooses to not even interact with while Perry is all alone he's truly leaving everything behind with Dick. Capotes choice of words are what help define the difference between them, while Perry is leaving it all behind because he has no one Dick is leaving it all behind despite having family he could potentially fall back on.

ICB PT.2 - Chapter 9

Capote perhaps reveals the source of his increased inclination towards the killers of the Clutter family as we are even shown of one of two surviving daughters from the clutter family reveal not her hatred towards the killers but rather her consolation to their then impure selves. The neutral diction to "stand" aside while the killers reach a religious epiphany rather than pursuing them for already finished crimes is an odd choice taken by a grief stricken bride attempting to alleviate a situation few can comprehend. The implication to actively stand aside and instead give them prayers is a choice which feels inexplicable through all lenses expect that of a religion which all the Clutter family lived under.

ICB PT.2 - Chapter 10

Capote is using chapter 10 to explore the more violent side of Perry as compared to his established vulnerable side to see which one, if any, were the true side of Perry. Capote is showing us glimpses of Perry's humanity and his inhumanity like how he allegedly murdered a colored man and of course his actual murder of the Clutters. Capote is fascinated by Perry and it's shown in the chapters as he's mostly focused on Perry's side of the story and how he's viewed everything that's happened so far.

ICB PT.2 - Chapter 11

Capote is able to acknowledge the semblance of humanity held by the Clutter family murders as one goes as far as recalling the gruesome details of his activity in what could be interpreted as regret. The grisly and exaggerated details such as those seen in the descriptive nature of "hysterical inhalations" and "gasps" reveals a deeply broken person as even with the facts facing their personal account, they struggle to reconcile with what they did as something born of a lunatic. In doing so, we are given further glimpses of the insanity which plagues the murderers willing to face a pleading family with little hesitation.

ICB PT.2 - Chapter 12

Capote is exploring the reaction of the people that lived in the town but didn't or barely knew the Clutter family. The Clutter family was well established and liked by many because of that there are people who are moving out of the town due to their murders. There are many people who would rather not have their neighbors leave them but despite that they leave as with the murders of the Clutters the town doesn't feel safe. Killing the clutters was the equivalent of killing a small town celebrity.

ICB PT.2 - Chapter 13

Capote further reveals his interest within the Clutter family murderers as he encroaches upon their personal nature. Even after murdering an innocent family, the murders, after an intense fishing catch are able to become content and overcome with the feelings of "beatitude" not experienced by many. The irony of such joy can be seen through the thought of blessedness towards killers and of men who, we the audience, know will eventually be captured in a moment of contrast to the heavenly fulfillment described by Capote.

Capote is changing views onto Paul Helm a member of a family similar to the Clutters. Through his perspective were able to understand the way he viewed Herb and how they were friends. Herb wanted there to always be a Clutter there and a Helm. In a sad twist of fate he got his wish he and his family will always be there. Capote also uses this chapter to explore how shaken Paul was to think that he saw a man in the window he originally thought he was hallucinating until he saw that man and was confident that they had found their murderer.

ICB PT.2 - Chapter 15

Capote extrapolates a key and mute point after showing the audience the letter written by Perry's father in his defense while he was within a Kansas prison. The takeaway given by Capote in reaction to the letter itself, Perry's sentiments, and his sister's further advice is an admission to dislike for the status quo. An opinion which can be understood through its bold use of "hypocrisy" as both he and Perry share radically different lifestyles with equitable judgment from the public. One lives a life outside the normal straight masculinity expected of him and the other lived a normal life with extreme results. In both cases, conventionalism has failed a proper life like expected.

ICB PT.2 - Chapter 16

Capote delves into the life of the detective investigating the Clutter case. Dewey, the detective, has still yet to catch the criminals that have murdered the Clutters. Dewey has investigated so much and asked people so much that he knew Herb and his family better than they knew themselves. Throughout his days he's been harassed often, due to him still not having found the criminals. He'd been harassed so often that he became desensitized to it, in a weird way it's similar to dick and how he was desensitized of killing after doing it often enough it didn't really feel like anything wrong.

ICB PT.2 - Chapter 17

Capote further exposes the lingering sentiment around the Clutter family and the impact which their murders had on a deeper level as we are shown a stark contrast between what occurred in the house and what is felt inside of it. Individuals such as Dewey have felt such a potent impact from there murders that he finds their former place of inhabitance as "peaceful". This diction is indicative of a now broken place within Kansas as the rippling effect being experienced within the community has created a havoc which leaves the Clutter house as a void where peace, unlike that experienced by the Clutter's, can be enjoyed.

ICB PT.2 - Chapter 18

Capote throughout part 2 has humanized the killers in many ways whether it be their families and loved ones or the traumas that they've gone through despite that it doesn't mean that their justified in anything that they do. They've become so desensitized to what they've done that they'll kill for any reason as long as it benefits them. Capotes using this as a moment of clarity that despite his clear defense of Perry it doesn't mean that what they do is okay or what they think is okay even if their both just broken men their men that have murdered for the sole purpose of self benefit.
