"It [prejudice] is such a waste. It makes you logy and half-alive. It gives you nothing. It takes away." -Dorothy Dandridge
Many stars of the era portrayed ordinary folks, and films
often portrayed the social issues and characteristics of
the time in which they were made.
This quote by Dorothy Dandridge supports our claim because it shows how famous actors and actresses of this time not only acted in movies that talked on social issues of the time, but they also personally spoke of social issues during this time and some used their fame to speak out for what they thought was right.

Athletic heroes reassured Americans that people were
capable of great feats and lofty dreams. If in our heroes
we see our idealized selves, the sports heroes of the
1920s gave Americans a sense of hope.
This quote from Babe Ruth supports our claim because he is saying to always keep trying and obviously talking to people who look up to him (there his hero). This compares with contemporary society because people still look up to amazing athletics heros and want to be like them. Athletes with always be a place we put our dreams because we want to be like them.

“I was within and without, simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life.” -F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald is a perfect example of a writer from this genre and another theme that is common for these authors was the death of the American dream, which is exhibited throughout many of their novels.
This quote from F. Scott Fitzgerald supports our claim because the character of Gatsby was always living life to the fullest and trying to reclaim his favor with Daisy, and in his path towards love, he ends up getting killed. This signifies how the American Dream being symbolized through Gatsby is being killed or dead like many of the citizens during this time feel.

Soon women

looked for a way to use their political rights to make an

Impact.
This quote shows this assertion because it shows how women saw the changing or their mindset. They thought now that it is okay to speak out for what you want. Now women's right are a lot better but there are still somethings that need to be changed and women are fighting for them. Also there are other minorities that are speaking up for what they believe in aswell.

Artists such as Aaron Douglas created paintings with

stylized art that reflected African Americans’ racial pride

and collective historical experience. This painting shows the collective historical experience of African Americans because it shows how they are working and looking up the the civilization that they want to be equal. This quote is kind of similar yo now because african american rights are a lot better but there there is not complete equality.

Emily Carr was one of Canada's most famous painters. People did not understand or appreciate Carr's new form of expression that emphasized strength, emotion and spiritual beauty in bold bright colors. In the example the pictures are very bright and creative. Also it is kind of spiritual with the fog in the background. This is similar to today because many people use bright colors and convey messages but it is also different because there are different new art form arising.
