(2-3 sources) SITUATE your investigation of the complexities of the issue. Present why this issue/problem is worth investigating, and begin to focus this issue to set up for your main idea.

There is always a conflict between the embrace of new ideas and keeping things the way they are. After all, new things are unpredictable, but reminiscence is safe, but does not result in improvement. This is a never ending battle between the risk to improve and the desire for stability. For example, older adults see fewer opportunities for change (s1) so the risk to improve is not worth it to them. However, young people are more willing to embrace new ideas as they see more things that need to improve as a new perspective. For example, scientists who are earlier in their career or more willing to include new ideas within their paper (s3). this never ending battle between reminiscence and new perspectives results in things becoming worse, rather then better, over time and must be changed.

Source 2 connects to source 1 by showing that old people ignoring problems is connected to management not considering employees perspectives as older people believe that “efforts to change will have less positive outcomes” thus they would avoid attempting to find the most effective solution and would rather take the fastest route. This competes with young people who believe in more positive outcomes whom are willing to put in more effort and find the more effective solution. This competition between speed and effectiveness is what “may lead the change implementation effort to failure.”

1. Reiterate the importance of your problem

2. Restate each of your claims, weaving them together to illustrate your line of reasoning

3. Reiterate your main idea/thesis

The battle between reminiscence and new perspectives not only inhibits change but also results in society going backwards. This is because nostalgia results in memories of a better past and causes the desire to resist any new perspectives that move farther from the "better past." This directly results in worse results, such as reduced performance in jobs or political polarization to some extent. On the other hand, combining perspectives results in lower healthcare costs and improves the insights of research. In fact, combining a degree of reminiscence and new perspectives increased job productivity and resulted in better patient recovery times.

NOTE: in IWA I will make sure to address a cause of the worsening of this problem as explained in my last 3 sources. This is a framework and is not representative of the sophistication I hope to achieve.
