This image is an example of propaganda against Mao.On October 1, 1949, Mao proclaimed the foundation of the PRC, a single-party state controlled by the CPC. In the following years he solidified his control through campaigns against landlords, suppression of "counter-revolutionaries", "Three-anti and Five-anti Campaigns" and through a psychological victory in the Korean War, which altogether caused the deaths of several-million Chinese. From 1953–1958, Mao played an important role in enforcing planned economy in China, constructing the first Constitution of the PRC, launching the industrialisation program, and initiating the "Two Bombs, One Satellite" project. On the other hand, in 1955-1957, Mao launched the Sufan movement and the Anti-Rightist Campaign, with at least 550,000 people persecuted in the latter, most of whom were intellectuals and dissidents. In 1958, he launched the Great Leap Forward that aimed to rapidly transform China's economy from agrarian to industrial, which led to the deadliest famine in history and the deaths of 20–46 million people between 1958 and 1962. In 1963, Mao launched the Socialist Education Movement, and in 1966 he initiated the Cultural Revolution, a program to remove "counter-revolutionary" elements in Chinese society which lasted 10 years and was marked by violent class struggle, widespread destruction of cultural artifacts, and an unprecedented elevation of Mao's cult of personality

Launched by Mao Zedong, the Chairman of the Communist Party of China , its stated goal was to preserve Chinese Communism by purging remnants of capitalist and traditional elements from Chinese society, and to re-impose Mao Zedong. When Qin was told that her grandpa died she did not know what her mother meant. Mao The leader of the Chinese at the time had died.

1970: What was the outcome of the cultural revolution? The Cultural Revolution damaged China's economy while tens of millions of people were persecuted, with an estimated death toll ranging from hundreds of thousands to 20 million. Starting from the Red August of Beijing, massacres took place across the country, such as the Guangxi Massacre ,the Inner Mongolia incident, the Yunnan Massacres and the Hunan Massacres. The "1975 Banqiao Dam failure", one of the greatest technological catastrophes of the world, also took place during the Cultural Revolution. On the other hand, senior officials, most notably Liu Shaoqi, Deng Xiaoping, Peng Dehuai and He Long, were purged or exiled. Millions were accused of being members of the Five Black Categories and were persecuted, suffering public humiliation, imprisonment, torture, hard labor, seizure of property, and sometimes execution or harassment into suicide

Chinese Communists joined with the Nationalist Army in the Northern Expedition of 1926–27 to rid the nation of the warlords that prevented the formation of a strong central government. This collaboration lasted until the “White Terror” of 1927, when the Nationalists turned on the Communists, killing them or purging them from the party.

1958-1962: The Great Leap Forward of the People's Republic of China was an economic and social campaign led by the Communist Party of China (CPC) from 1958 to 1962. Chairman Mao Zedong launched the campaign to reconstruct the country from an agrarian economy into a communist society through the formation of people's communes. Mao decreed increased efforts to multiply grain yields and bring industry to the countryside. Local officials were fearful of Anti-Rightist Campaigns and competed to fulfill or over-fulfill quotas based on Mao's exaggerated claims, collecting "surpluses" that in fact did not exist and leaving farmers to starve. Higher officials did not dare to report the economic disaster caused by these policies, and national officials, blaming bad weather for the decline in food output, took little or no action. The Great Leap resulted in tens of millions of deaths, with estimates ranging between 18 million and 45 million deaths. About the same number of births were lost or postponed, making the Great Chinese Famine the largest in human history. In the graphic novel when Qin parents spoke to her and her sister about the importance of finishing every meal, do you referring to this time when there was family and people would eat off the ground to satisfy the hunger.

Out of 10 stars I would give this book a solid seven stars. The book was very interesting. It kept me very engaged and curious. There was a lot of good things about the book, one thing I found particularly interesting is the traditions. The New Year’s tradition was quite appealing to me. Lei Feng Day was also something that interested me. A day where people try to be their best selves is something that I would like to see here in my home right now. Another thing that is interesting Is how much respect the Chinese have for themselves, others, and not only what they have. And that I am referring to how they always finish all the food because their past ancestors and some of the other older generations didn’t have food to eat. And they always respect each other no matter what. For the other missing two stars but I would like to say about that is, the book doesn’t cover the certain cultural change more specifically. It doesn’t tell us why life suddenly changed other than the death of the leader Maois how much respect the Chinese have for themselves, others, and not only what they have. And that I am referring to how they always finish all their food because their past ancestors and some of the other older generations didn’t have food to eat. And they always respect each other no matter what. Four of the other missing two stars but I would like to say about that is, the book doesn’t cover that certain cultural change more specifically. It doesn’t tell us why life suddenly changed other than the death of the leader Mao. Another thing I believe that could’ve been better is if the book had been in more order and more specific to what happen in Kin’s life. But overall I enjoyed researching the cultural revolution in China.

“ We grew up in China was slowly opening up to the world both economically and culturally. This made for a much different childhood. We became a transitional generation— A generation caught in between one way of life and another, between the old and new show”.
This quote is from the author and the main character of the book Nai Liu (Qin). In some ways her situation can be compared to our generation and technology. How so? When one generation is used to old methods of anything from Hardwork to labor to strengthen numbers is now replace by technology. Whether it be a machine, a robot, and all sorts of other things. Obviously there is a huge difference between these two. But for the sake of a comparison we can think of the 1970s China cultural revolution as the technological revolution that we are experiencing now.
