This type of paper requires you to write a partially personal and also formal explanation of one specific word. Considering the fact that this is an essay, you cannot pick a term that is describable in a few words. It has to be a complex term that has significant background and origin in history, as well as a term that people can relate to in some way or form.

who is a hero?

The term hero has been in use in the society for the longest time in history. Most of the fairy tales and other Disney productions revolve around the title as portrayed in the fictional characters. People use the term hero as a compliment in different contexts. The variety of the term definition in the world raises the question, who is a hero?

A hero is a person whose actions are regarded so highly by the observer or the society. These actions may not be necessarily morally upright. They only have to elicit a kind of awe to the observers. Whatever an individual might regard as wondrous may not be so unusual to the other person. Therefore, heroism is relative (Gonchar, 2015).

Since time immemorial, heroes have been recognized as people who can be looked up to, people who are brave and are ready to fight for the rights of the oppressed. They are the people who act selflessly and are not afraid of sacrificing their comforts for the common good. Their actions are always in line with the virtues upheld in the particular community. They are the types of people who can sacrifice their lives for the sake of a stranger they never met when confronted by danger. They are the people who bear the burden of the society on their shoulders without expecting any rewards or recognition (Murphy, 2014). They are the ones found in the service industries, the doctors who treat the patients, the soldiers who protect the citizens, the teachers who share their knowledge with their students, the mothers who would sacrifice everything for the sake of their children, the unselfish lot in the world (Murphy, 2014).

Definition Essay Who Is A Hero? The problem is that such people no longer exist in the communities today. Most people are driven by selfishness, the greed for the acquisition of property, fame and other selfish needs. The thirst for recognition is their primary motivator. Due to this reason, heroes are defined as mythical creatures that only exist in tales. Heroism is an act from the past but not in the current societal setup (Gonchar, 2015).

Every person has a right to define a hero the way he feels right because there is not a single definition that would explain what real heroism is. Still, every person can choose what to believe whether heroes really exist in the world today. As we have seen, heroism is all about the intention which cannot be fathomed by other people, not the actions that anyone can see.

Does Freedom of Speech Give People the Right to Use Hate Speech? Paragraph 2 : Firstly, freedom of expression emphasize all other human rights, therefore letting community to improve and move forward at a persistent rate. According to history, society developed appreciations to everybody who were not afraid to speak their opinions. Before this, all views that were opposite to the mainstream mindset would be considered as detestation, hatred toward their way of life, culture, and traditions.Paragraph 3:	Freedom of expression is crucial due to the capability to hear others and be heard at the same time. Sadly, one of the dominant problem of our community is that public hardly listen to others and accept their takes on some topics if they disagree with them.Paragraph 4: Lastly, it is not a surprise why offensive statement and expressing undesirable opinion are classified as a threat to the humanity. Those persons who think hate speech is not a freedom of speech, mostly emphasis on the expression of negative attitude toward certain people and idea. “What is freedom of expression? Without the freedom to offend, it ceases to exist” Salman Rushdie. The quote perfectly sums up the never-ending debate about freedom of speech and hate speech. It is a well-known fact that freedom of speech and expression belongs to the group of fundamental human rights of every person on this planet. Lately, we are witnessing the rising concerns about hate speech, is it protected by this basic human right or freedom of speech should have some limitations? Given the fact that every individual is allowed to express thoughts and beliefs, banning the negative comments would, in fact, deny his or her basic rights i.e. freedom of speech.Freedom of speech reinforces all other human rights, thus allowing society to develop and progress at a constant rate. The ability to state our opinion and speak freely is pivotal for any change in society. Throughout the history, society evolved thanks to the individuals, great thinkers, brave leaders, who were not scared to express their beliefs. Back in time, those beliefs that were contrary to the typical “mindset” would be considered as hate, a hatred towards their way of life, culture, and tradition. The most reputable professors, experts, and campaigners only confirm that free speech has always been used to fight for change, for better times.Besides reinforcement of other human rights, free speech is also essential due to the ability to hear others and be heard at the same time. We need to hear other people’s views as well as offering them our own opinions. Unfortunately, one of the fastest-growing problems of our society is that people rarely listen to others and acknowledge their takes on certain topics if they don’t agree with them. We should feel comfortable exchanging ideas and thoughts with those who have opposing views. Experts agree that way there would be less “hate speech” circling around. We hear or read the term “hate speech” a lot, especially now with the easy internet access and a multitude of social media websites to join. It comes as no wonder why insulting comments and expressing negative ideas are considered a threat to the humanity. A lot of people are anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim, anti-gay marriage, and so on. Those who assume hate speech is not a freedom of speech, primarily, focus on the expression of a negative attitude towards certain people and ideas. However, if we start banning people from expressing their beliefs, then what comes next? After one thing, there always comes another and, eventually, the mankind would live in fear of saying anything. The reality is that the society has become oversensitive; everything one does not agree with is considered insulting and branded as hate. Finally, freedom of speech is the most important human right that every individual has the right to exercise. This freedom comes with the ability to express one’s opinion, regardless of its nature good or bad. What our society needs today are not limitations of free speech, but making efforts to establish dialogues between people with conflicting beliefs. Listening and being heard will go a long way; that way we could build bridges instead of burning them.
