Intensive coaching is not for every teacher. Intensive coaching is a support to the teachers who can benefit from it, such as a new teacher or a season teacher that is having some challenges implementing a specific practice.

Georgia supports the "Culture of Coaching" by hiring two Mentor Coaches (Ariana and myself). Ariana supports Lyons and Douglas, and I support Norman Park and Glenville. We provide a safe space for the teachers to try new ideas and ask for help or questions. We also provide positive feedback as well as ask for feedback from the teachers.

Intensive coaching can be viewed as a support for those who would benefit most, and actively wanting to peruse growth in a professional development goal. Data can support in a way as a guide of areas that need to implement growth. Programs might also choose staff for intensive coaching because of motivation. Teachers should want to volunteer in being a coachee. Coachees who are motivated to participate in coaching can support the positive messaging that builds the culture of coaching.

In NC we have two coachees who support across 4 counties and CCP sites. We provide support to teachers through in- person, virtual group coaching-PBC & TLC's (for teachers who are seasoned) and video tapping if applicable. We build our culture around doing site visits to check in and provide support to staff and admin to. While visiting we may be a 3rd person, cleaning tables, relief of a bathroom break, or provide materials, while building relationships. Meeting the needs of coachee by following the coaching agreement. Me and Lorie try to find a balance on locations where we coach, but we also coach/support at all centers we travel to. We work with teachers on how they would like to communicate: text, email, call, in person and response to how they would like reflection meetings and prepare for those meetings.

Intensive coaching is something that is used to benefit teachers and is not a punishment based on low scores. It is not something that is meant to be done with every person. Rather, it is additional support based off data in specific program areas.

In NC, there is a high support when it comes to coaching. Not only do we facilitate events to meet teachers, but we also offer support in the classroom as needed. We have created bonds with the teachers in all four of our counties. Coaching is not something that is "punitive." We take extra steps to assure our coachees that this really is a safe space and fully confidential. Not only that, but the coaches support each other in a way that is evident to those on the program. They see us a team and joint resources.
