Macbeth is a play written by Shakespeare. Macbeth is about a Thane who, after winning a battle, gets a prophecy from three witches. He goes back to Scotland and he and his wife make a plot to kill the current king. They blame the murder on the king's guards. He becomes distrustful of one of his closest friends, so orders to have him and his son killed. He kills his friend but his son escapes. He becomes conflicted throughout the entire play as to who he is. Is he a ultra masculine war hero, or is he a quietly powerful king? Malcom, the rightful heir to the throne teams up with another thane names McDuff. Macbeth kills McDuff's wife and all of his children and so McDuff comes to get revenge on his wife and children. Macbeth got another prophecy from the witches that said that he can only be killed by someone who was not born from a woman. McDuff was removed from his mother so he was able to kill him. He does, and is finally crowned king.

What Happens in the Play?
-------------------------------------------
Macbeth begins as the noble Scottish Thane of Cordor, who has just won a fight alongside his friend Banquo. Three witches appear and tell him of his fate: he shall be king. This begins to drive him mad, he eventually kills King Duncan as he grows extremely desperate for the throne. His madness and bloodlust leads him to his demise, and he is beheaded by McDuff.

Lady Macbeth and Macbeth
---------------------------------------------
Macbeth begins as the dominant figure in the relationship, but as the play progresses his character deteriorates, he loses his masculinity and power. Lady Macbeth becomes the dominant figure, ordering Macbeth to kill the king to achieve her wicked desires. She succeeds in persuading him to do so. Because of this, she suffers from an overwhelming amount of guilt and trauma from the event, it becomes too much to bare. She kills herself.

Themes Explored
-----------------------------
- Power
- Status
- Greed
-Corruption
- Identity

DIDACTIC
----------------
One didactic function of the play is when Macbeth gives in to Lady Macbeth's agenda, obeying her commands. This leaves us questioning the roles assumed by genders at the time. Also, this gives us insight on the character's integrity and awareness of identity.

------------------------------------
-Macbeth murders King Duncan, and feels very guilty/paranoid afterwards.
-i know that Lady Macbeth is very authoritative and manipulative, and macbeth commits a lot of murders to hide how he killed King Duncan.

added:
----------------------------------
The theme explored here is that Macbeth is seen as a manly in the very start. He then starts to look less masculine when he is reluctant to kill Duncan. On one hand, he looks masculine for murdering the king, but also weak when he takes instructions from a woman. It contradicts the actual idea that "He would be coward if he didn't kill Duncan", since he actually would have been more authoritative if he hadn't listened to Lady Macbeth.

Also
Lady Macbeth then takes the masculine role from Macbeth which is more controversial since it was set in a very old time period, whereas it would't have been as impactful if it was set in modern day.

Lady Macbeth: Her didactic approach is that she is very authoritative to challenge old gender roles.

Macbeth is a Shakespearean play which follows the story a man named Macbeth and his controlling wife, Lady Macbeth. It begins with Macbeth and Banquo having just won a war and they come across three witches. They predict a number of things such as Macbeth being names Thane of Cawdor, and banquo's offspring becoming the future kings of Scotland. The predictions come true, as King Duncan approaches them and names Macbeth the Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth later on writes a letter explaining the intriguing account he had with the witches, and Lady Macbeth is lust for power. Some may say she is even more manly than Macbeth, as he lust for power overtakes everything else. She later convinces Macbeth to kill Duncan, to become King. He comes over, and Macbeth kills him; becoming king of Scotland.

However, he is eventually is ordered by his wife , and loses his sense of masculinity due to now becoming a king. He is no longer a strong warrior, and lacks individuality. Lady Macbeth is seen to sense this and had manipulated Macbeth from the start because of his weak character. Lady Macbeth is believed to be inferior to Macbeth, even though she does not possess the power of the crown.

Character: LADY MACBETH

-One didactic function of the play is when Lady Macbeth expresses her desire to have Macbeth as king, and this shows the audience through some of her famous lines how she wishes to be
